Improving Mental Health In The Midst of Quarantine

by Mariia Lvovych Founder at GetReviewed.org
COVID-19 pandemic has caused a massive change in how people interact with each other. Today, social gathering is highly discouraged. In fact, people are placed on quarantine as a measure to prevent the spread of infection. Cities big and small are in a lockdown mode. Businesses and schools are forced to close. Caring gestures like hugs and kisses are replaced by social distancing. Suddenly, the world is changing in a bizarre way.

Quarantining is one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of the virus. However, it can also have an impact on mental health. Humans are social beings, and the fact that you don’t get to see your friends and people dear to your heart for a long period of time may cause a feeling of loneliness and despair. Not to mention, a feeling of isolation knowing that you can’t go out the way you used to.

Fortunately, there are things you can do to safeguard your mental health and overall well-being. These include the following:

  • Establish routines

Quarantine disrupts your daily routine, which can leave you feeling worthless and directionless. It would help if you are going to establish a new routine at home, especially if you are working from home. Plan out activities that will keep you occupied throughout the day.

  • Be active

Staying at home for a long period of time may not only cause havoc in your mental health but also in your physical health. It would help if you are going to stay active. There are many at-home workout ideas for you to try. They can be easily performed right in the comfort of home and without the help of a fitness instructor.

  • Use your time wisely

The quarantine period is a perfect opportunity for you to take advantage of your time wisely. You could start working on a project, something that you can easily do at home such as organizing your closet, learning to cook new dishes or try out a new hobby.

  • Communicate

Just because you can’t see your friends and loved ones in person does not necessarily mean you can’t communicate with them. Social media and the latest technological advancements have enabled people to communicate with one another virtually. Staying in contact with the people that matter to you helps staves off boredom.

  • Take advantage of mood tracker apps

There is mood tracker software that enables you to track down your mood and one of which is Misu. It is an app created by Dan Seider

How Misu can help you?

Misu tracks your level of anxiety and happiness; from the scale of 0 to 100 dozens of times intermittently. It is made possible by emotion detection artificial intelligence. Using the AI, it can detect your mood based on facial micro-expressions like frowning and subtle eye squinting, to name a few. Mood tracker apps like MisU is a big help, especially in times like these when remaining sane is the best thing you can do, considering the current crisis that the entire world is facing.
