How to Teach Younger Grades at Home?

by Tyler P. A Passionate Blogger - Entertainment

The top accredited homeschool programs offer two types of curriculum options: print and online. The first is designed for students in K-2nd grade, although parents can choose to use it up to 5th grade depending on their student’s comfort level and learning ability. Starting in 3rd grade, students can transition to the online portal which allows them to complete their assignments on the computer and start practicing a more independent form of homeschooling. Once this happens, it becomes easier for parents to have multiple children learning at home but if you have children close together in age and still in print, here are a few ways to maintain sanity.

Find the subjects that each of your younger students are strong in and can address on their own. Every child learns differently and at their own pace so one may excel in math while another prefers reading and grammar.  While you are working with one child on the homeschool 2nd grade programs, the other child can be practicing their handwriting, drawing pictures for art and even using physical objects to practice their math.  Then you will switch the studies so that each child has a chance to work on their own and gets personal attention from mom or dad. If both parents are home or you have older students, the homeschool day gets simpler to manage because you can split the work in many different ways to ensure that every child gets the attention they need. This is especially important in the early years where reading, writing and the math basics form the groundwork for what they will learn in the following years.

When you enroll in Christian schools online, there is an established curriculum that builds a foundation for each grade so students can move smoothly from one year to the next. This is one of the major reasons parents should carefully choose the best program at the beginning, so they don’t have to switch programs at a later time and make students adjust to new systems, curriculum and teachers. Young children have a shorter attention span so it’s important to be flexible and to combine learning opportunities where possible. Each grade’s print curriculum comes with a lesson planner and guide for each subject, so parents have a resource. The key is to plan ahead and see where both students can be taught at the same time which is fun for the kids because they get to work together and easier for the parent teacher as they can focus on a single objective.

It’s important to remain flexible and have plenty of patience in homeschooling because kids will have bad days as well as days where they would rather play around the entire school day. Online classrooms make it easier to teach multiple children because they are connected to professional instructors and can complete their work on individual devices. Younger students are fun to teach because they are constantly asking questions and they have plenty of creativity so parents should use this to their advantage and work it into their schedule to make the day fun and educational at the same time.
