How to Set up Multiple Monitors on Windows 10

A multi-monitor set up serves in multiple ways when it comes to improving productivity as it facilitates multitasking for everyone, whether you are a gamer, data analyst, content writer, programmer, etc. Multiple monitors are capable of providing more display, thus making it convenient for you to glance over another piece of information while keeping an eye to another important one. However, to avail this facility, you should have the proper knowledge regarding setting up multiple monitors. You can set up multiple monitors on Windows 10 as it has appropriate settings and several features that support to set up multiple monitors. Still, before configuring a multi-monitor set up, you need to check if all required peripherals or cables are appropriately connected to the computer and monitors.

  • Go to Settings, open it and then tap on” System”.
  • You will be prompted to “Display and click on it”.
  • After then, you will be headed to “Select and rearrange displays” where you need to drag and then drop every Display so it could be rearranged according to their physical layout on the desktop you have.
  • Make sure to align all the monitors at the top to avoid any problem while moving the cursor of the mouse between them.
  • After then tap on the “Apply.”

Once the steps are completed, you can run apps and work across each monitor and display without having any issues. You can tap on the Identify button to figure out the monitor you have selected. You could search the monitor by clicking on the Detect option else check it is properly connected or not and reset the connections. After then, you will have to adjust the resolution, scaling, and orientation for every monitor.

   Adjusting Scaling

  • Go to” Settings” and tap on System and then head to display.
  • Choose the monitor that you want to change by moving to the section ” Select and rearrange displays.”
  • Go to the drop-down menu and choose the appropriate scale under the headings Change the size of text, apps, and other items.
  • You have to perform some steps again to change the settings in the other monitors such as you have to go select and rearrange displays section and then on the drop-down menu before signing out.

 Using Custom Scaling

  • Head to” Settings” and then tap on System.
  • Move to “Display” where you will be prompted to the “select and rearrange displays”. Choose the monitor to be adjusted.
  • Tap on the option “Advanced scaling settings” under the section “Scale and layout.”
  • In the further step, choose the size of scaling between 100 and 500 percent under the section “Custom scaling.”
  • At last, tap on the Apply to complete the steps and sign out of your account.

Setting up Correct Orientation

  • Go to settings then on the option of System and then tap on “Display”.
  • Choose the monitor to adjusted by heading to the section” select and rearrange displays”.
  • Go to the section “scale and layout and choose the mode you want to use from the drop-down menu of orientation under the headings – landscape, portrait, landscaped(flipped), portrait(flipped).

You can also use keyboard shortcut keys for switching between the orientation such as ctrl+Alt+right arrow to rotate screen 90 degrees and similarly, Ctrl+alt+up arrow to restore normal orientation.

Selecting Multiple Displays Viewing Mode on Windows10

  • Go to “Settings” and open it and then tap on System and then move to display.
  • Choose the monitor to be adjusted under the section “Select and rearrange displays.”
  • Then go to the article “multiple displays” to set the appropriate viewing mode from the drop-down menu, which includes the options like- duplicate desktop, extend and disconnect this Display. If you want to set the display mode for other monitors also then you have to repeat the previous steps, which include going to the section select and rearrange and then moving to the section multiple displays.
  • You can also set the display mode by using keyboard shortcut key Windows+P, which when invoked come with four options for Display like
  • PC screen only- where the only primary display can be used
  • duplicate- where secondary displays will display the primary monitor
  • Extend- An extended desktop will be offered with the combination of both screens
  • The second screen only- only the secondary display will be allowed

Sometimes, you may feel the need to make few adjustments to improve color accuracy and remove flickering of the screen for which you may have to opt for advanced display settings on Windows10, which include-

Setting a Custom Color Profile.

  • Go to settings and open it, tap on System and then tap on “Display”.
  • Please move to the “Advanced Display Settings” and click on it, and then you have to head to the option “Display Adapter Properties” for selecting the display you wish to set in a custom color profile.
  • Tap on “Color Management Tab” and then on color management button after then tap on devices to choose a display.
  • In further steps, you have to go to the option” Use my settings for this display” option and check it.
  • Tap on the button of” Add” and then go on the page ” Associate color profile” where you have to look for the new color profile while tapping on the “Browse” button.

You can set a custom profile in other monitors also by repeating some of the above-written steps includes selecting a display, checking the use my settings up to double click on the .icm.

Further, you have to install the new file by double-clicking on the.icm and then complete the process by clicking on the close button.

Change the refresh rate

  • Go to settings, open it, and then move on the System button and then click on “Display”.
  • Go to the option of “Advanced display settings” and click on it and then tap on the “Display adapter properties” if you want any changes in refresh rate.
  • After then tap on the tab of the monitor and then choose the correct refresh rate from the drop-down menu under the section “Monitor settings.”
