How to Prepare for a Dance Competition

by Sri Lanka Foundation Sri Lankan Communities Worldwide!
Dancing is one of the most enjoyable activities that many people love. For professional and skilled dancers, it has an entirely special significance. For them, dance is not just a hobby, but it’s a passion. The same kind of passion is required when someone participates in a dance competition. Here’re a few tips that can help you to get ready for the dance competition.

Motivation

Inspiration before a dance contest is almost as vital as your dance. At the time of performance, many amateur dancers set extra attention in the technical features. They become extra focused on their moves, routines, and rankings; they overlook the fun factor in dancing. One should enjoy dancing it to the fullest. They need to take care of technical aspects and thoughts just for guidance in the preparation stage. They have to be focused and should enjoy the dance moves at the time of the contest.

Mind Preparation

Sometimes, people don't realize the worth of the mental training for a dance contest. It is as significant as the physical training for maintaining the routines. It’s not so easy to clear your brain and get completely focused on your competition. First, you need to free your mind from all toxins and get motivated before you get on the dance floor. Medication, yoga classes and any of your favorite activity right before dancing can help you out.

Eat Right and healthy

Eating healthy before your competition is important to your performance. There are chances that you can have the correct meal and also the wrong diet. After a few days, you may find out what foods are good for you. Avoid eating one big meal before dance competition, in fact, try to eat several snacks to stay light and energized. Eat healthy including protein based foods and vegetables. Consider carrots, peanut butter, apples, trail mix, crackers, hummus, and cheese.

Begin your preparations

You need to start your dance preparation in advance. Finding a suitable contest dress for yourself can be a prolonged and sometimes an annoying task particularly in the last moment. You need to get rid of all the redundant last minute fears that can distress you and affect your performance. Before the contest, reduce stress by arranging everything required for the performance and contest including dresses, shoes, and accessories in advance.

Free and movable

Throughout your routine, it’s significant to look as relaxed and happy as possible. Often judges look to see whether you seem natural in your moves. They don’t want to see you appear heavy and stiff which can affect your scores.

Final simulations

This method helps dancer carry out their new schedule and practice in a simulated competitive atmosphere. This helps dancers to increase their stamina and perfect their technique.
