How to Prep for Your Garage Door Installation?
by Kevin Smith AuthorGetting
a new garage door installed is exciting, especially if you have been in a
struggle with your old door. To make sure the installation goes off as smoothly
as possible you need to prepare. Follow these guidelines to make sure your
garage door installation in Alpharetta can go quickly, efficiently, safely and
without a hitch.
Move all Vehicles from the Garage
This
includes any vehicles that are stored in an adjacent bay as your installer may
have to use that space to set up and do any prep work. Additionally, remove any
vehicles such as motorcycles or ATVs as the fewer obstacles in the garage the
better. Plus, an obstacle-free garage allows for more workspace.
Do not
park your vehicle in your driveway if you can help it. Driveways are great
staging areas for contracting work and being able to park close to the work
area will save time in your installer or their helper having to lug equipment
and materials from their vehicle to the workspace.
Clean the Garage
This
is a great opportunity to clean your garage, but at least you should clear a
space that allows for the installer to set up and comfortably and safely use
any tools. If your door has any type of overhead rail and cable system making
sure the garage is free of clutter is highly recommended. Remove any sharp
tools like rakes or shovels and if possible, allow for a three-foot wide
perimeter path to surround the area that the garage door will be installed.
At the
minimum, move any sharp tools or equipment to the back of the garage as far
away from the work area as possible. This is particularly true in and around
the garage door work area. Anytime power tools and equipment, construction
materials and larger components like door panels are involved, there is a
possibility something could go wrong. You do not want a tool or piece of
equipment broken if an unforeseen problem arises.
Restrict Access
Installing
a garage door is not complicated or terribly dangerous in the vast majority of
cases. There is, however, always a risk of something going wrong or if you have
children or pets of them getting themselves into a hairy situation. By
restricting access to the installer and yourself, you ensure that there is
virtually no possibility anyone will get hurt.
Let the Installer Install
The
installation of a garage door requires attention to detail. In most models,
there are electronic and mechanical devices that have to be installed correctly
or your garage door investment will end up being wasted. Your installer also
has to be able to concentrate and make sure everything is installed correctly.
Keep chatting with them to a minimum as the less distracted they are, the
quicker your installation will go.
You
will likely never see a reality show based on garage door installations. That
does not mean, however, that you can ignore basic site preparation. Follow
these guidelines to make sure your garage door installation in Alpharetta goes
off seamlessly.
