How to Polish the Wood Floors to Restore the Shine?
by Alex M. Worked as a Business Development ManagerPeople often complain that their wood floor
is not shining in the way it did a few years back. The reasons are simple. A
wood floor often gets too many tears and hit, especially if it is in the high
traffic area. As a contractor for floor
polishing Sherman Oaks mentioned refinishing of the floor is important
in every three to five years depending on the use. However, do you know how to
do the polishing? It predominantly works for professionals. Still, if you want
to take a try which is not recommended, here are the steps for them.
Before you will know the steps, here are
some of the tools that you may need in the process of refinishing. You may need
a broom and dustpan, Wood floor cleaner (or dish soap and water), Sponge mop,
Wood floor polish, and Flathead mop with a microfiber cleaning pad.
Now as you are already knowing the
requirements of polishing, here are the steps.
Do a test finish
In case you are not sure about what will be
the outcome, then you can go for a test finish. You can scrape off a tiny bit
from an inconspicuous area with a sharp knife blade. In case the finish is
smudged but no clear material is scraped up, your floor probably has a
penetrating finish. These types of woods want to be waxed instead of polish.
However, if you found a clear material then you can go for the polishing.
Clean the floor before polish
It is an important step need to be taken to
ensure a smooth floor
polishing Sherman Oaks. Empty the room, removing as much furniture
as possible, then clean the floor thoroughly to remove dust and dirt. Sweep or
vacuum, then mop with a commercial wood floor cleaner or solution of a
quarter-cup of dish soap and a gallon of warm water to lift any lingering
grime. Finally, use a clean mop to remove all the residues and make it dry by
using a dry towel.
Polish floors still it’s not shining
Now comes the most important part that is
the polishing. You must start from a back corner of the room, plotting a path
that will have you end up near an exit, pour a small S-shaped amount of wood
floor polish onto the floor. Must you a flat-surface mop, work the solution
back and forth in the direction of the wood grain, smoothing out any air
bubbles. You can apply multiple coats if you want.
Let the room not disturbed for the whole
day
Once you have finished the floor
polishing Sherman Oaks, you must allow the room to be not disturbed
throughout the day. You should wait at least an hour before allowing light
traffic through the room and a full day before moving your belongings back in
and resuming normal use. Don’t drag or slide furniture, pick up each piece, and
place them where they belong to avoid the scratching on the floor.
