How to Install Commercial Carpet Tiles in 5 Easy Steps?
by 212 Carpet A Knowledge Based Commercial Flooring Company!New carpeting can
improve the appearance and feel of your commercial space. However, traditional
rolled carpet installation is time-consuming and costly — and waiting for a
popular NY carpet installer’s schedule to open up is frustrating. Fortunately,
learning to lay carpet tiles allows you to create the same look and feel in
less time and money.
Carpet tile
installation is simple, and
because it is a do-it-yourself project, it is also inexpensive. Learn how to
install your carpet tiles in five easy steps:
Step 1:
Determine the materials needed.
Make sure that you have
enough tiles. To calculate the room’s square footage, multiply its length by
its width. Next, divide the room’s square footage by the square dimensions of
the carpet tile of choice. Don’t forget to add 10-15% to your estimate for
errors and future repairs and replacements.
Step 2: Mark
the room’s center.
To ensure a consistent
commercial carpet tile installation, start working from the center of the room.
Determine the center point of each wall and mark the subfloor at that location.
Draw a chalk line on the floor between parallel walls. The lines should cross
at the center of the floor. Dry-fit carpet tiles along the chalk lines from the
center point, setting them in place without adhesive. Continue placing your
tiles until you reach the wall. Adjust the row to fit another full tile if the
gap between the last full tile and the wall is more than half the width of the
carpet tile, taking into account which side of the room you would prefer the full
tiles to be on.
Step 3: Check
your layout.
Lay the carpet tiles
along the two baselines, starting in the center and working your way out toward
the wall. If the gap at the wall is less than half the width of a tile, move
your center point and lines over until at least half a tile fits in the space.
Step 4: Begin
your installation.
Begin the installation
by properly adjusting the first rows of carpet tiles. It is important to note
that all carpet tiles have a pile direction, which is indicated by an arrow on
the back of the tile. For a seamless installation, make sure that all arrows
point in the same direction. Remove the plastic film/paper from carpet tiles to
expose the adhesive backing. If the pile orientation is correct, lay the tile
lightly on the floor and ensure it is square. Once you are satisfied, manually
press the tile into place.
Step 5: Cut the
pieces running along the walls.
With most of the floor
carpeted, it is easy to cut the parts of the tiles that run along the walls.
Transfer the gap between the wall and the last full tile measurement to a
carpet tile. Cut the carpet tile to size using a straight-edge knife. Because
walls are not usually perfectly straight, do not expect all final carpet tiles
to be the same size. Take your time and measure each area separately. Before
cutting, make sure the pile direction is correct. Once cut, install these
carpet tiles in the same manner as you did in step 4.
