How to Get the Right Size of Moving Truck in Michigan?

by Micheal Williams Business Development Executive

We discuss the size of moving truck you need to hire while planning to relocate the home without a moving company in Michigan.

While moving to Michigan, you find a moving company a bit costly and decide to move it alone. Despite a moving company in Michigan is a great help, you don’t want it to be done professionally. Great decision! But you need a moving truck to transport the stuff to the new home. And you must hire a truck of the right size.

We here discuss moving trucks and the various sizes.

Getting the Right Size Is Key

Before you shop for a moving truck, it is important to know how much belongings you have at home that you would prefer moving to the new home. The truck you hire should be accurate – not too small and not too big. When it is too small, you would need to multiple trips from the old house to the new one, and you end up spending a lot of money. When the truck is too large, it is wastage of money.

This means, your calculation needs to be accurate. One of the benefits of having a mover in Michigan is that they provide a truck of the accurate size. Do not worry as you too can do it.

How Much Stuff Are You Moving?

Before you rent a truck, you should assess how much stuff you have. Always purge your belongings. Give away all the items that you don’t want at the new home. The less volume of stuff you have, the more space your truck will have. This will not only save you time and money when packing and unpacking but also ensures you start in your new home without too much clutter.

Once you have decluttered the home, approach a truck renting company and you will get multiple truck rental estimates. Analyze the rental estimates and pick what you feel is the best.

While you pick a moving truck, consider things like the garage or storage shed, an attic, or spare room that holds all your stuff. A lot of people forget just how much stuff these areas of our home have and how much they add to our move.

How to estimate the size of truck you'll need

Here is a guide that most rental agencies will use to determine the size of the truck you'll need. Just remember that this is a guide only:

·         26' will move 4+ bedrooms

·         24' will move 3-4 bedrooms

·         17' will move 2-3 bedrooms

·         14' will move 1-2 bedrooms

·         10' will move a studio or small 1-bedroom apartment

Visit the truck rental agency with a general idea of what size of truck you need based on the above estimates. Give them the list of your belongings, especially the large items that you prefer to move.

For example, you may have three couches or two king-sized beds, or two fridges to move. And to move larger items, you may require large trucks and special moving tools.

Know How a Rental Truck Agency Measures a Truck's Holding Capacity

Normally, truck rental agencies will provide you with the volume of items a truck can hold. It is measured cubic feet which means the volume of a cube whose sides are all 1 foot long. This measurement is used as every inch of available space is considered; which means the space from the floor of the truck's bed to the ceiling, back to front. Since you cannot use every inch of the truck, you will fill the entire stuff into it and the rest of the space will be empty.

However, hiring a mover in Michigan will resolve this issue as it is well aware of the size of truck you need. This will cut down the cost and will save your budget.
