How to disinfect your car: steps to follow

With the COVID-19 pandemic, sanitizing our surroundings has become very important, be it home, workplace or the transport. Taking public transport for travelling purposes may put you in a greater risk. So, it is better to use your personal vehicle. Remember to disinfect your car. This can stop the spread of germs and keep you, and your car safe.

Steps of Disinfecting 

The frequently touched places, also known as the germ hotspots, i.e., steering wheel, the gear stick, any buttons or function screen, the door handles, arm rests, key fob etc. must be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected. The taxis and public cars must take extra care in cleaning everything as they have more chances of spreading COVID-19 or any other disease. 

The normal scrubs and cleaners won’t work inside the car, and might damage the surface too. So, choosing the most effective method and the right disinfectant treatment is required. The best thing about disinfectant spray is that it can be used on any type of material. Thereby making it friendly for using inside a car. 

Do not use bleach in the interior of the car as it may be harsh. Disinfectant and shampoos have been made especially for car interiors. Any soap can work against any germs and bacteria, and even against Coronavirus. Another type of disinfectant would be alcohol. Along with alcohol, more ingredients are added in the disinfectant solution. This solution is used in disinfectant spray that makes the application easy. 

The right type of cloth should be used for an effective cleaning. A micro fibre cloth is made up of fabric that consists of tiny little loops that capture and sweep away dirt without harming the surface it is used upon. It also absorbs water or disinfectant solution and doesn’t just spread it around like other clothes or newspapers. 

Along with the seats, dashboard, steering wheel, buttons and other functions, you should also remember to sanitize the air conditioner vents. The tiny infected droplets, that spread while sneezing and coughing, can get inside the AC vents. Along with germs, viruses and bacteria, there are chances of fungus, mould and mildew to be present. It is better to get professional service, or you can use disinfectant that is approved by a car care brand. 

It is safest to maintain personal hygiene and disinfect yourself before getting in the car. Remember to sanitize your hands before touching anything inside the car. Do not leave your belongings here and there, they can be exposed to the virus, and spread it in your car. Take special care in disposing your masks and gloves. Practice social distancing to the maximum. Maintain distance while talking, especially from a sick person. Avoid valet parking. And encourage cashless transactions rather than exchanging physical money.

• You must also take care of your personal hygiene. Take a shower before going out and after coming back. 

• Wear a mask when out, or meeting people. Don’t reuse the mask, wash it or use a new one. 

• Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for 20 seconds. And in unavailability of soap and water, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

• Sanitize your electronics and other things that can catch and spread the virus. Use disinfectant solution in any form, or use a disinfectant spray. 

• Avoid any unnecessary physical contact. Maintain social distancing and practice self-isolation. If you had guests over, use an air sanitizer spray and other disinfectant services to eliminate any uninvited germs and virus.
