How to Connect & Control Lights with Alexa

You can use your smart speaker to control the lights of your house if they are smart. You can turn on/off smart lights by telling Alexa. Beside this, you can also ‘dim’ the lights with Alexa by calling ‘Dim’ command. To do this all you need to connect your smart speaker with your smart lights.

Prerequisites:

1.    Before connecting your device with Alexa, confirm that the device light, button or hub is smart and compatible with Alexa.

2.    Read and use the instructions by the company to set up the smart device for connecting it with Alexa.

3.    Give a simple name (Kitchen light, bedroom light) to the smart device that you’re connecting with the Alexa to easy understand.

4.    Connect your smart device and Alexa with the same Wifi network.

5.    And download the ‘Alexa app’ on your device.

How to connect Amazon Echo with Smart Light

Before going ahead for the connecting process, set up your Smart bulb according to the Manufacturer’s instructions. After installing the bulb go through the steps:

1.    Open ‘Amazon Alexa app’ on your device.

2.    Open ‘Menu’ by tapping on ‘Menu icon or three horizontal lines’.

3.    Now tap on ‘Smart Home’ from the menu.

4.    Open ‘Devices tab’ if it is not.

5.    Now, tap on ‘Add Device’. Echo will start scanning for the compatible device (light) and shows all discovered devices on your screen.

6.    Scroll and look for the name that you gave to your smart light into the discovered devices list.

7.    Now, tap on ‘Smart light name’. Doing this will complete the setup process and connect Alexa with your light.

How to Connect Amazon Echo with Smart Switch

Before going ahead for the connecting process, set up your Smart Switch according to the Manufacturer’s instructions. If there is any doubt in installations, appoint an electrician to set up add the wire properly.  After installing the Switch according to instructions go through the steps,

1.    Open ‘Amazon Alexa app’ on your device.

2.    Open ‘Menu’ by tapping on ‘Menu icon or three horizontal lines’.

3.    Now tap on ‘Smart Home’ from the menu.

4.    Open ‘Devices tab’ if it is not.

5.    Now, tap on ‘Add Device’. Echo will start scanning for the compatible device (Switch) and it shows all discovered devices on your screen.

6.    Scroll and Look for the name that you assign to the device into the discovered devices list.

7.    Now, tap on ‘Smart Switch name’. Doing this will complete the setup process and connect Alexa with your Smart Switch.

How to create a group for Smart lights

For easily controlling your smart lights you can create a group for them.

1.    Open ‘Amazon Alexa app’ on your device.

2.    Open ‘Menu’ by tapping on ‘Menu icon or Three horizontal lines’.

3.    Now tap on ‘Smart Home’ from the menu.

4.    Switch to ‘Groups’ tab at the top of your screen.

5.    Tap on ‘Add Group’.

6.    Touch on ‘Smart Home Group’ on next screen.

7.    Give a ‘Name’ (like Bedroom, bathroom, living room) to the group. Choose a name for your group from the “Common Names” list.

8.    Tap ‘Next’ button near the bottom of the screen.

9.    Pick the ‘Lights’ to add it into the group.

10.    Hit ‘Save’ button. After grouping lights, you can control grouped lights with a single command. You can command Alexa to on and off them all.
