A few natural products are enough to clean the refrigerator and eliminate unpleasant odors: bicarbonate, vinegar and lemon. Find out how to use them to have a fridge that is always fragrant and sanitized.

After the Christmas holidays , it's time to remove the decorations and tidy up the house , especially the kitchen . Think of the fridge: how many times have you opened and closed it during Christmas and New Year's binges? How many dishes have you kept to face the big tables with friends and relatives? Surely you will be dirty ... And there will be leftovers in the last top shelf. Because, let's face it in all honesty, as far as we are careful and tidy, we all have an expired food, an old vegetable, a piece of yellowed cheese or a jar of scraps forgotten who knows since when in the farthest corner of our refrigerator. So, let's take advantage of this moment elet's do a little 'cleaning : not only to throw what we do not need or that has failed, but also to sanitize our precious home appliance. Do you know how to clean the fridge in a natural and effective way? Below are some useful tips : from drawers to shelves, from gaskets to external surfaces, there is no need to use aggressive chemicals and detergents. Everything you need is right in the kitchen!

The products to clean the refrigerator from stains and molds

Before we throw ourselves headlong into the cleaning of the refrigerator, empty it completelyand we remove all the internal accessories. In this way our work will be much smoother and more accurate. I also suggest you to apply a towel or a cloth to the bottom of the fridge so as to collect and absorb the water that can drip during cleaning. Keep in mind that within this appliance you can nest up to 8,000 bacteria per square centimeter : some micro-organisms are harmless, while others are harmful to our health if they contaminate the food that we then ingest. For this reason, it is advisable to disinfect the fridge frequently, at least once a month . Without these premises, let's roll up our sleeves and start!

One of the indispensable products to clean the refrigerator is bicarbonate : simply mix it with water to create a cleaning and disinfecting mixture to pass easily both on the inside walls and on the external ones with a rag . The recommended dose is a tablespoon of bicarbonate for half a liter of warm water. However, if you have to remove particularly difficult stains or mold marks , it is better to prepare a thicker and more consistent mix , simply by doubling the bicarbonate dose. In this case, use a toothbrush to act more effectively, especially on gaskets. The advantage of this compound compared to a chemical soap - in addition to being natural and eco-friendly - is the practicality of use: just a quick pass with a cloth, without having to rinse several times to remove the detergent foam .

The bicarbonate disinfects , but it is not alone: at its side must not miss the vinegar , preferably white wine or apples. In case of specks of food particularly difficult to remove, I recommend red vinegar. This ingredient can be diluted in lukewarm water or used as it is , passing it with a clothsoft on the walls, shelves and drawers of the refrigerator. Acetic acid cleans, eliminates bacteria and degreases. Also, if you have a stainless steel fridge, it is ideal for removing fingerprints and fingerprints on the outside and making it perfectly polished.

How to eliminate odors from the fridge

In addition to stains and molds, our refrigerator can present another problem: the bad smell generated by foods that are anything but "fragrant", such as fish , vegetables (think of broccoli and cauliflower), cheese and food breakdown. What to do in this case? Lemon can help useffectively solve this unpleasant inconvenience. After finishing the cleaning of the fridge as we have just seen, you can prepare an additional solution based on water and lemon juice to be sprayed inside the appliance with a spray bottle: a fresh and pleasant fragrance will spread among the shelves. Alternatively, especially to prevent the formation of new unpleasant odors, you can store a few slices of lemon (to be replaced every week) directly in a corner of the fridge. Other tricks absorbing odors are the coffee grounds,  the peeled potatoes and a bicchere bicarbonate , also to leave for a few dayson a shelf or in a drawer . More generally, to avoid the dispersion of unpleasant odors, remember to always close the food in perfectly sealed packs and jars.
