How to choose CBD oil [What to look for in CBD]

What should I look for in CBD oil?

She decided to give CBD oil a try after learning about all the health benefits and treatments associated with it. Unfortunately, the next step is quite overwhelming. So which CBD oil is right for me? (sounds like buying a used car). CBD oil can be quite expensive, trial and error may not be efficient in this case, plus shooting in the dark is never a good option. Trying to investigate the matter becomes somewhat tedious, it seems that there is a lot of scattered information. Hopefully this article will be a solution to that problem, I will do my best to collect all the information on what exactly to look for. Then you should be able to confidently make a clear and concise decision on a CBD oil that suits your needs.

Decision One: Should I Get a Full Spectrum CBD or a CBD Isolate?

This decision is the basis of all CBD decision making. There are two types of CBD oils: full spectrum CBD and CBD isolate. Basically, full spectrum CBD oil is better… but there is a catch. Full spectrum CBD oil contains cannabinoids from the entire hemp plant, some traces remain during the extraction process, but legal amounts of THC remain. The effects of full-spectrum CBD are best felt because all the cannabinoids work synergistically for the most benefit. But the downfall is the small amounts of THC. There is a possibility that I will get a false positive on a drug test (if you want to see my drug test results, you can do it here).

CBD isolate is strictly pure CBD. They extract the CBD directly from the hemp seed before THC is a concern. The claim is 0% THC. So it doesn't work as well as full spectrum, however it still works. So if THC is a concern, choose a CBD isolate. (You can learn more about the differences between full-spectrum CBD and CBD isolate here.)

Next: Extraction method

There are a few different ways to extract CBD. While some extraction methods can be covered at home. I'll just cover the two main methods that CBD manufacturers typically use. Those two methods are the Co2 extraction method and the solvent extraction method.

The Co2 extraction method is considered a safe method. Saving most of the complicated science behind it (if you want to know in depth, check out this article), the Co2 method involves compressing the Co2 gases into a liquid, introducing CBD, the CBD is broken down, and then the Co2 is condensed. back to liquid.

This method is safe in terms of processing and is considered safe in terms of food use. However, the downsides to this method are that the equipment required for this method is quite expensive, so products using this method tend to be more expensive.

The solvent extraction method uses ethanol, low-grade alcohol, or butane. This method is less complex than the Co2 extraction method and is usually more cost-effective, but it is considered a more dangerous extraction process and the by-products that remain can be hazardous to health.

Ethanol, low-grade alcohol, and butane are among the most common substances used in solvent extraction. Although ethanol extracts the full range of cannabinoids and terpenes from the plant, making the final product safe to consume, it also extracts chlorophyll, which can lead to some unpleasant side effects. You can remove the chlorophyll by filtering the extract, but it significantly reduces the potency of the oil. Butane offers an oil stronger than ethanol, but is more likely to contain solvents that can irritate the lungs.

CBD oil viscosity?

The viscosity of CBD oil will vary for a number of reasons. According to hempgazette.com, CBD oil should be greenish to golden to dark brown in color and the extraction method and potency will result in a variable viscosity.

What about the power?

CBD manufacturers sell a wide variety of milligram strengths. Unfortunately, this step will require a bit of trial and error. Typically companies sell concentrations close to 300mg and then increase incrementally up to usually around 1000mg (although I have seen up to 5000mg)

It is generally recommended to start with the lowest milligrams to see how its effects work on you and if you need more to buy more. The first time I bought Full Spectrum CBD Oil, I bought something in between (600mg) and it seemed to work fine.

The strength you need is entirely personal and will vary based on factors such as weight, the type of condition you have, and your tolerance. Severe conditions like seizures and pain will require greater strength, while less severe conditions, such as mild anxiety, will require less.

In what forms does CBD come?

CBD comes in so many different forms today, manufacturers are getting very creative with this. The most popular form is the oral tincture. The drops are administered sublingually and the recommended time on the bottle is waited before swallowing.

Other common forms include capsules, gummies (or edibles), and topical creams.

The oral tincture and gummies are my favorites as they seem to work the best. If I was trying CBD for the first time, I would stick with either of those options.

Another favorable option is CBD vaping e-liquids. Vaping is a faster way to get CBD into your system and less is wasted in the process. The vaporizer enters the lungs and directly into the bloodstream, while other means of ingesting it cause it to lose some of its potency as it passes through the digestive tract. But vaping has its downsides. People are speculating that it may not be that safe for your lungs as the liquids contain glycol to dilute these CBD oils and be able to vaporize them. When the glycol is heated through the vaporizer, it turns into formaldehyde, which enters the lungs. On the plus side, you can take the vaporizer anywhere and use it when you feel the need.

Other unconventional forms range from CBD-infused teas to CBD-infused toothpicks, CBD-infused honey, etc. You think about it and they are probably succeeding.

Lab tests and third party lab certificates

This is very important. Most reputable CBD companies will include third-party lab test results for their products. You should be able to easily see them when purchasing a product. This ensures that the claims of the CBD manufacturers are correct. They are typically tested for purity, consistency, potency, and safety. A lab result will show you the spectrum of cannabinoids the CBD product contains and the amounts of CBD you are getting. Reputable brands should have these certificates to proudly display their product claims.
