How to calculate the necessary distance between each LED solar area lights?

by Austin Baines Content Writer

In most cases, a number of LED solar area lights have to be installed in close vicinity to each other due to which people usually have to calculate the distance at which the street light should be installed in order to illuminate the whole area appropriately. Some users tend to install the street lights depending upon their guess, which leads to various issues and inappropriate use of the resources that are available to them. Therefore, it is recommended that appropriate calculations should be carried out before installing the street lights in an area so that they are at a suitable distance from each other and illuminate the area perfectly. This will not only increase the efficiency of the LED solar area lights but also allow the people to make decisions, which will have them save them investment and illuminate the area as per their requirements.

Therefore, in this article, we will discuss the method with the help of which people can calculate the distance at which they should install solar street lights. The calculations will depend upon the specifications of the solar street lights that customers have purchased as well as the overall length of the area at which the street light has to be installed. The significant features that play a role in the calculation of the appropriate distance between street light poles are given below:

  • Properties of the area: The length and width of the area at which the LED solar area lights has been to be installed play a significant role in the determination of the distance between the solar street light. In case the width of the area is greater than solar street lights of greater ratings will have to be installed so that they are capable of covering the whole width of the area because otherwise street lights will have to be installed both horizontally and vertically.
  • Properties of the terrain: In case street lights have to be installed in an uneven terrain then it will also have an impact on the overall distance at which solar street light should be installed.
  • Overall height of the pole: The height of the pole is the most significant factor that has a role to play in the determination of the distance at which street lights should be placed.  In case the height of the pole is greater than street lights can be placed at longer distances but in case the height of the pole is less than more LED solar area lights will have to be placed at close distances.
  • Total lightluminaries: Most important information about a solar street light that is important in determining the distance at which solar street light should be installed. It is usually given in Watts (W).
  • Output of the light (LO): Every light has a luminaire output specification (LO) which is usually provided in terms of Lumen. It plays a significant role in the determination of the distance at which is street lights have to be placed.
  • Lux of the streetlight (Lx): Every solar street light has a lux value, which determines the overall intensity of the light that is available in the area from the solar street light. It also plays a role in determining the distance at which the solar street light should be placed.
  • Productivity factor (PF): The Productivity factor determines the overall output of the LED solar area lights that is of use to the customers and it is usually less than 100% output that a street light is capable of providing.
  • Deterioration of Lamp output (DLO): Every solar street lamp has a deterioration of Lamp output that is important in the determination of the distance at which the solar street light should be installed so that good quality results can be obtained over a sustained period. There are usually two values of deterioration of lamp output available for solar street lights and they are both used for making the calculations. These deterioration factors are donated as DLO and DDO.

Calculating the distance at which LED Solar Street Light should be installed

Criteria for installing solar street lighting in area is that the pole and height ratio should not be greater than 3. In case, pole and height ratio is greater than 3 then users will not be able to get desired results and the street lights will not be able to provide the appropriate level of illumination in the area.

The formula for calculating the distance between solar street lights in the area is given below:

Therefore, in case,

Then,

Now, we will calculate the pole and height ratio, which is,

= pole spacing / horizontal area of the pole

< 3

This value is less than 3 which means sad the recommended distance at which street lights should be placed is 33.6 feet.

Conclusion

Using the method that has been provided in this article, people can make an assessment of the distance at which LED solar area lights should be placed and get the best results for the requirements.  It should be ensured that all the variables that are necessary for calculating the distance be obtained properly so that they do not affect the outcomes of the calculations.
