Abrasion resistance: The stones with high abrasion resistance are preferred. They have high abrasion resistance to prevent scratch due to exposure to sand and other abrasives. The finish will patina or loss with time due to this scratching.

Absorption: Stones with nominal absorbent ratings are virtually non-porous. They dont need sealer and are less likely to stain and are easier to maintain. Materials with moderate absorbent rating are resistant to staining because of low porosity however not impervious. Those with high porosity are susceptible to staining.

Acid sensitivity: Acid cleaners irritate the materials containing calcium or magnesium carbonate. They are rated as moderately sensitive or highly sensitive will patina more quickly as compare to materials that are nominally sensitive.

Crowd: Natural stones are fit to handle heavy commercial traffic although they have a history of wearing with the passage of time. They usually need less care and maintenance than materials required for moderate, light and residential traffic.
