How Does an Atomic Clocks Work?

Timekeeping might be simple as counting from one to ten, but is hard to keep, especially when the clock that is the source of your time is automatic.

An atomic clock is known as a device that uses the electronic transition occurrence that can be found in the optical, microwave, or even the ultraviolet area of the electromagnetic range of the atoms as the occurrence rubidium frequency standard for the timekeeping element. Atomic clock is engineered for the purpose of time keeping, but then again, how does it really wok?

How Does an Atomic Clocks Work?

An atomic clock has the ability to keep the time better compared to other clock. It is already a common know how for many people on how does the atomic clock work.

An atomic clock works by the energy particles being measured. Although the name of the atomic clock sounds very dangerous to people, it is said not to be a radioactive. Atomic clock measures the quantity of the time it profits for the atom to change the state of its energy. It counts the times of how many switches the atom do from positive to negative does and then vice versa and then eventually uses that quantity to measure the passing of the time.

1.       Heat, Bundle and Sort- first of all the atoms are being heat in an oven and then bundle it to the beam. Each of the atoms that are being heated has one or more possible energy states. These are referred to as the hyperfine levels. Then eventually a magnetic field diminishes all the atoms that are bundled from the beam so that only the atoms that is being heated remains.

2.        Count- the state of the atoms that is heat are being sent through the resonator wherein they are exposed to the radiation of the microwave, this actually triggers some atoms to change (to beam). Close behind the resonator, the atoms which are still heat are being diminished by the second magnetic field. A certain detector eventually counts all the atoms that have changed its energy state.

3.       Tune and measure- after, the atoms that adjusted its energy state while passing over and done with the resonator depends on the occurrence of the microwave radiation. The further it is in sync with the essential oscillation occurrence of the atoms, the more the atoms change their energy state. The goal line of this is to without a glitch, tune the occurrence of the microwave to the oscillation of the said atoms, and eventually measure it. After 9,192,631,770 oscillations or fluctuations (exactly), a second has passed.

This is how the atomic clock works; it is more precise compared to other clocks that can be found around the world. The accurateness of the atomic clocks is constantly improving and varies. Atomic clock is the most accurate clock that is used to determine the time. In the modern world, scientist is creating and developing a more accurate clock than that of the atomic clock.
