You need to be reasonable and rational.

How do I Stop yelling at my kids”? Well, Let us see how?

  1. Take a few deep breaths and calm down.  Tell your child what you’re feeling.  Explain your emotions of irritation.
  2. Whenever you fall prey to your triggers, apologise and learn to move on. This will encourage self-awareness and self-reflection. Brooding, anxiety, and anger have never sorted anything. Unless you are suffering from an anxiety disorder, you can manage to stay afloat by these methods.
  3. You need to give yourself grace and be kind on yourself. Try to remove yourself from nasty situations so that you get time to manage them.
  4. Don’t forget to tell the kids that you love them. Tell them you didn’t want to yell at them but lost your temper. Tell the kids you are going to make efforts not to lose your cool.
  5. Explain to them you are not perfect and it hurts you to lose your cool. You can explain that you act out when stressed but will try to be better for their sake.
  6. Ask them to remind you that they love you when you are going to blow the fuse. This way you can register the love reminder in your mind and control your errant emotions in time.
  7. Kids always empathise with parents who are frank with their emotions.  It is easier for the child to understand why his mother is angry rather than find out reasons on his own.
  8. Ask your child to help you deal with these angry emotions.  Get a grip on that anger and tweak yourself mentally.  The child is supposed to obey you but can break rules once in a while. It is not the end of the world remember that!
  9. A relaxed parent will always be more in control. If you are agitated, recharge your emotions by taking a break.  Your sanity is extremely important.  When you take out time to do activities that please you, the child will respond better. Your moods will be happier and anger will take a back seat.
  10. Manage them while you pursue your personal hobbies. This will relax you and allow the kids also to learn something new. They will also understand the necessity of some “me-time”. Parents need to set boundaries. Even if you have to lock yourself inside a room, do it. The message will pass across. Once they understand the value of your time , they will take those extra efforts to help you. You have no idea how understanding a child can be!
