Home And Commercial Playground Equipment

by Shiloh Fletcher Free Lance Writer
Commercial playground equipment will typically consist of slides, swings and climbing ropes. Some of the more elaborate playground sets are actually landscape structures. These are intended for children of all ages, and they are intended to provide recreation and physical fitness. Not all playground equipment is for commercial use, however. While the vast majority of playground equipment is indeed manufactured for schools, daycare facilities and other commercial establishments, many pieces of playground equipment is intended for residential use as well. One common piece of playground equipment for home use is the basic backyard swing set. Tree houses may also be used for backyard play. You may purchase ready to assemble equipment for your backyard or play area. Alternatively, you may have a professional playground set installed. If you are particularly skillful with do it yourself home projects, you might consider building play equipment yourself.

Playground equipment, either designed for commercial or residential use, is intended to motivate children to become physically active and play outdoors. These days, parents often complain about their children sitting mindlessly in front of the television, playing video games or watching TV. Outdoor equipment for play and fitness is a healthier alternative. With so many choices available, it may seem confusing to choose the right equipment, although it isn't challenging when you select your equipment according to the child's age and needs. For instance, if your child has been diagnosed with a sensory deficit disorder, you might want to consider sensory equipment for outdoor play. This type of equipment encourages the child to explore various colors, shapes and textures. Climbing structures with wheels, mirrors, kaleidoscopes and other activities stimulate the senses as they promote physical fitness.

Commercial outdoor equipment for older children ages eight and up may consist of climbing structures. Climbers help develop coordination and muscle strength. Safety should be the main priority when choosing outdoor play equipment, and age recommendations should always be followed. This type of equipment should be placed underneath a soft structure such as grass, artificial turf or padded mats. Slides and gliders are ideal for younger children, and these also help develop coordination and balance. In addition, some community centers and commercial playgrounds offer skate parks where children may practice skateboarding.

If you prefer to set up your own backyard play area, you have many options to choose from. Home playground equipment may be purchased at your local toy store or distributor, major retail department store and online. Playground kits include elaborate sets that feature various activities, as well as basic play sets for simple fun and exercise. You might choose one or two stand alone pieces, such as a trampoline or swing set, or if you have a large yard and play area, consider an entire home playground.

Younger children often enjoy an imaginary place of their own while engaging in fantasy play. A fun clubhouse for the kids is one way to indulge them. You can either build your own equipment or purchase a clubhouse set for your backyard playground. Consider a castle design for your little princess, or a fort for your little soldier.

Playground kits for home use often include climbing towers, slides, swings and a sandbox for the little ones. If you are handy with tools, all you will require are the basics such as drills, hammers, pliers and screwdrivers. before you begin to build your backyard playground, measure your allotted space. Be sure to include some type of protective surface underneath to prevent injury due to falls. Equipment such as teeter totters, monkey bars and climbing structures should never be placed directly underneath concrete. Also, your designs for home playground equipment should comply with safety standards according to your child's age.
