Heat recovery ventilation – Maintain a proper heat balance

by Micky B. Professional Writter

Heat recovery ensures that the energy that gets wholesomely wasted in your house is utilized for some purpose. Although as a dweller of your house, you might be unaware of the different forms of energy that simply goes wasted and is unaccountable in totality. This is more or less observed on various industrial applications where a huge amount of energy simply goes wasted. Therefore it is important that your home or workplace has a system from where such a kind of wastage of energy can be reclaimed or recovered. The best source for doing this is through heat recovery ventilation.

It is very well known fact that every building and every house has got an internal heat load that is generated by various machines and systems used for various purposes. Then there are external sources of heat such as oil gas, electricity solar etc.  The total generated energy in this way is only partially utilized for the purpose intended and the rest remains rejected from the system. This rejected energy can be reclaimed or recovered and can be brought back to use in the system with several efforts. This reclaimed or recovered energy can be used for offsetting the cost of space or water heating.

Heat is the biggest and the most bounteous source of energy. As already discussed, not all the amount of energy is used in either an industrial process or a domestic process. A major part of this energy goes waste and remains completely un-utilized. We very well know that energy is wasted in every form of utilization, and this is the reason that we brag about energy efficiency.

The various sources of energy from which one can recover or reclaim heat is air conditioners, refrigerators, ventilation systems which keep on expelling conditioned air for the sake of fresh air. These are no doubt the biggest or say the largest energy guzzlers of a house. Besides these very common devices, some of the appliances that consume so much of energy are air to air heat pumps, water to water heat recovery in power generators and water cooled air conditioners. Some of the other possibilities can be heat recovery wheels and heat exchangers in ventilation ducts and flues etc. however, all this can be avoided by heat recovery ventilation.

Then in some of the larger applications, heat can be reclaimed or recovered from CHPs, turbines and chillers. This heat is generally reclaimed through heat exchangers ( mainly for industrial processes, district heating etc.)
