Healthy New York: 5 Spots to Buy Organic Products

by Lily B. Writer

Everyone knows that America is the country of Coca-Cola, French fries and hamburgers, the main producer of fast food and the main ideologist of unhealthy food. However, recently Americans increasingly prefer natural and organic products, and New York is considered to be the pioneer in the world of a healthy diet.

For the fans of proper nutrition, there is the whole industry that produces organic products, countless dietary supplements, decaffeinated drinks, as well as gluten-free, lactose-free and salt-free foods. Even in the simplest store you can find fruits, vegetables and packages with ‘healthy’ signatures on labels: Organic, Reduced Calorie, Natural, Sugar Free, Excludes Milk, and others.
Obviously, there is no shortage of shops specializing in the sale of organic products in New York. Here are a few spots where they can be purchased...

Juice Generation

Juice Generation is a small healthy food bar with an excellent choice of juices, smoothies, hot drinks, soups, salads, and also all sorts of healthy foods. The founder of Juice Generation is Eric Helms, who, along with actress Salma Hayek made a popular detox program in the US called Cooler Cleanse.

If you have just arrived in New York, Juice Generation will be a great way to regain strength after the tedious flight. So, you can pick up the best car rental  in order to reach this health food establishment quickly. The fresh juice of Supa Dupa Greens from Juice Generation is one of the most favorite drinks of the New Yorkers. The mix of spinach, curly cabbage, parsley, lettuce, cucumber, lemon and apple turns into a half a liter of green juice providing you enough energy to get around the whole of New York!

Fresh vegan desserts and drinks are often prepared from fresh Thai coconuts in New York. In Juice Generation, a banana-coconut smoothie is poured into the newly emptied coconut shell.

Coconut water is also sold there – it’s considered to be incredibly healthy. However, it’s usually pasteurized, and therefore no longer has such properties as fresh water.

Whole Foods

Whole Foods is the whole health food museum. These supermarkets are considered to be the best in the US. At first, they sell only high-quality organic products, and secondly, they are always clean and tidy. In Whole Foods, you need to go for fruits, vegetables and meat! Also, you can buy there excellent natural cosmetics including soap, shampoo and other body care products.

Of course, all the products are healthy: organic potato chips with a low salt content, as well as farm yoghurts are worth your attention. Especially you will like bread from sprouted wheat, coconut cream, different kinds of walnut milk and black quinoa. In Whole Foods, you can take ready-made salads and side dishes. Delicious papaya and the selection of vegetables will be a great selection for a mini-picnic in the park.

In the evening, you can freshen up yourself with a bottle of kombucha. Kombucha is a natural fermented drink that is a symbiosis of yeast and acetic acid bacteria with the addition of ginger, fruits, berries or algae. The drink contains useful probiotics and cleanses the body of toxins.

Organic Avenue

Organic Avenue is a boutique of healthy food, which offers ready-made organic dishes, as well as a large vegan assortment of natural products.

Organic Avenue is a nice place for everyone. Its mission is very transparent and understandable - to bring something fresh and healthy to everyday life. Organic Avenue’s green juices, smoothies and ginger lemonades are appreciated by Jennifer Aniston, Liv Tyler, Gwyneth Paltrow and Alicia Silverstone. These juices are prepared by the cold pressing method, so that all vitamins and enzymes are preserved. Therefore, even a simple cucumber or carrot juice from Organic Avenue is different from juice squeezed out with the use of a conventional juicer. The store also sells cold soups, salads, herbal elixirs, nutty bars desserts, and bread from sunflower seeds. We recommend tasting Green LOVE juice consisting of the mix of kale, spinach, cucumber, celery, chard, cabbage, pear, lemon and parsley. Among desserts, you should try lemon tart, which is sweet, and with pleasant sourness and gentle coconut cream!

LifeThyme

LifeThyme Natural Market is a worth visiting spot. As it turned out, this is one of the best shops with organic and vegan products in New York. On the ground floor there are drinks, food, various vitamins, dietary supplements and a cheap buffet with salads, hot side dishes and desserts. On the second floor you’ll find an excellent selection of natural cosmetics and care products from John Masters Organics, Dr. Hauschka and Dr. Bronners.

Particular attention in LifeThyme should be paid to a refrigerator with ice cream. There are many options - from organic cow, soy or coconut milk, with berries, mint or chocolate. Choose Coconut Bliss with the taste of caramel and ginger biscuits - it's incredibly delicious and hearty!

Bonobo’s

Bonobo’s is a small cafe with a varied raw & vegan menus. Salads, soups, rolls, sandwiches, desserts and drinks are all fresh, juicy, and made mostly from organic products. The prices are quite reasonable. Especially you should try their gazpacho and delicious Coconut Chai drink. It’s made of fresh coconut, agave and spice syrup - everything is simple, but what a delicate creamy taste!

Address: 18 E 23rd St, New York

As you see, healthy food in New York is very common and very accessible. Ordinary minimarkets sell packages with sliced fruit, many cafes have excellent salad bars, and street kiosks offer freshly squeezed juices and smoothies. In general, you won’t have to search long for tasty and healthy products in New York - there is always a great choice of them.
