Good public speakers are always popular and can influence a crowd. What is it that makes a good speaker? What the specific qualities that public speakers have which can get a crowd to sway to them? Given below are a few of them. Basically, it is said that when a speaker appears confident, the audience tends to respect the speaker more.

Whereas some of the celebrity speakers have the right kind of persona that makes the tick in front of the audience, most others would do well if they develop a few qualities.  We have listed a few of these qualities.

Self-confidence

The crowd in front of a speaker always equates competence with the confidence exhibited by the speaker.  Most of the learning that humans do is through visual means is what studies have concluded. The non-verbal communication such as eye contact and gestures of your hands hep the crowd to assess the speaker’s capabilities and confidence. Self-confidence can be developed by trying something and succeeding in it.

Poise

Poise for a speaker is greatly appreciated. Poise refers to the calm that the speaker can exhibit under pressure. It is the ability to stay in control when there is increased stress. The speaker may feel nervous but a poised speaker performs anyway. Self-confidence is the result when fear disappears as a result of poise in many stressed and fearful occasions.

Energy and Enthusiasm

One simple rule for any speaker to follow to become a successful one is to exhibit enthusiasm. You can break any speaking rule taught to you provided you exhibit passion. The best keynote speakers are usually passionate. Authentic speakers who are more persuasive are often seen to more enthusiastic and filled with energy

Stories and Examples

Stories and examples rendered always make for a good speech. How do stories help? They help to capture the attention of the audience first. It helps the speakers to build a relationship with the audience.

The celebrity speakers’ bureau would teach speakers that adding stories while they speak would help to reduce the nervousness drastically. This helps to increase poise and self-confidence. It also helps the speaker to appear enthusiastic. However, it is not a good idea to overuse stories.

Brevity

The human brain is not capable of retaining too many details at a time in its working memory. It can retain only three or four items or things in an instant at a maximum. Therefore it pays to be brief during speeches for the best rapport with the audience. No audience appreciates a speaker who rambles on and speaks too many words.

Entertainment

The purpose of a speech is not only to inform the audience but also to entertain them. The speaker has to exhibit a minimum amount of showmanship for the audience to grasp their teachings. The entertainment is as important as information and showmanship is an important quality of a good speaker.

Any speaker that pays attention to these qualities while speaking will surely end up as a good one with sufficient practice.
