Go For a Change in Eye Color through Iris Implantation

by Sandy Clark Writer
Eye color can be changed by two ways-temporary and permanent. If you want to change your eye color temporary, you can do this by wearing contact lenses. Many types of contact lenses are available that provide different effects.

If you want to change your eye color permanently, iris implant surgery is available. The colored portion of the eye is called as iris, which consist of pigmentation that determines the eye color. The iris can be of following colors-

o Brown
o Blue
o Green
o Black
o Hazel
o Grey
o A mixture of these colors

If you are thinking of how to change your eye color permanently, then there are two technique- low laser surgery and artificial iris implant surgery. Implant surgery of iris was first developed to treat traumatic eye injuries and medical conditions. These include coloboma (when part of iris is missing) and aniridia (when the entire iris is missing).  The doctors make a small cut in the cornea and insert a silicon-based artificial iris, folded to fit into the slit. The artificial iris then unfolded by doctors underneath the cornea so that it covers the natural iris.

Nowadays, the procedure has become popular for cosmetic reasons. Many people choose to change their eye color surgically, even though their iris functions normally. Another way to change your eye color permanently from brown to blue is with low-energy laser.

Eyes color is determined by the pigment called melanin, People with lot of melanin will have darker eyes and who have less melanin will have lighter eyes. By laser technique, doctors remove that pigment melanin from the upper surface of the eyes which reflects brown colored eyes. There is yet another color in the background that is blue color. When the melanin is removed a blue colored eye is reflected from light.

An artificial iris is a non-toxic prosthesis, thin layered which is compatible with body tissue. Materials used in manufacturing intraocular lenses are used to make artificial iris. This iris is safe and made of biocompatible materials. This procedure of artificial implant is safe, ambulatory, short and painless. It takes around 15 minutes for each eye and performed under topical anesthesia. Artificial iris can be folded and inserted into the eye through peripheral corneal surgical incision and implant is flexible.

Many risks are associated with surgery that are given below-

Eye Inflammation
Injury to the Cornea
Glaucoma
Cataracts
Swelling of the cornea
Partial Vision loss or Blindness

This surgery’s safety is yet to underperform and currently not legal in U.S. clinical trials. But some people still going for the artificial iris implant surgery to change their eye color permanently.
