Four Habits that Kill Creativity Inside You

by Rahul Sharma Writer
For university students exploring new ideas form the basis of their studies. In school rote learning methods might work but as soon as you enter higher education, honing creative thinking skills should be a priority. In today’s tech-savvy world, everything around us is changing. People want a quick solution to their problems. A knowledge person who has the expertise over a field but can’t think out of the box will have limited growth. If your depleting innovativeness has lowered your score in VBSPU Result 2019, knowing why it happened is vital.

Opposed to the common beliefs, creative thinking skills can be taught though students who pursue writing, designing, artist etc. innate ability to create something out of their imagination.

If you feel your muse has left you and you have permanently lost your creativity; hold on.  It can be revived again, you just have to change some of the bad habits you have made over time.

1. Working and evaluating simultaneously - Consider a potter, who is spinning and shaping the clay into a jar on the potter’s wheel. He can’t predict the shape of the pot until it’s completed. What if he starts scrutinizing the clay in the middle? It will delay the pottery.

The essays, projects, models, etc. students are asked to submit during their academic years are their creation. They begin will ideation, planning, garnering information, and finally build a solution from what they have learned from the above steps.

If you start accessing the work at the time you are doing, it slows you down and stops you fully utilizing your mental resources. Don’t hinder the workflow until the task completes, because you can add the finishing touch later! Have a separate timeframe for creation & appraisal.

2. Perfectionism -  Richard Branson wouldn’t own 400 companies if he obsessed over being the best. He didn’t know anything about aeronautics still bought an airline. His first venture was an inter-school magazine for which he didn’t sufficient fund. The reason why he became successful is he never feared failures.

A great lesson to learn from him is to take actions. Most of the students want to be the best at whatever they do. The weight to hone their skills to the utmost level before starting with a project. Take actions when you feel you are ready to implement an idea. For example - If you know the basics of coding and want to create a software, don’t wait to become a master in the programming language. As you reach an intermediate level, start working on the software with the help of your teachers.

3. Fear of Failure - It is the top factor that stops students from taking challenges. Being a class clown is not on their list. They enjoy staying in a comfort zone and living a normal life. A creative thinker is never afraid of mistakes. If you are not failing it means you are learning anything new in life.

4. Fear of ambiguity - At the time you are still developing your skill or don’t have a firm grip of the concepts, a number of elements are open to more than one interpretation. You might think of backing off or given up. At such times, you should dig deeper into the subject with the help of an expert.

The difference between a normal learner and creator is remaining calm amidst the chaos.

Conclusion - The above-mentioned are the four reasons when students lack in creativity. Though the exams are held to test knowledge, students will creative minds scored more in the VBSPU Result 2019.
