Focusing Outwards: From the Self to Society

by Jeremy Banks Evolutesix
Many self-development coaches will tell others about the benefits they can reap through personal development training. Most occasions, you will hear about how it helps you become more in tune with yourself. You will be able to assess what makes you tick, so to speak, and how to address any characteristics you have that may or may not hinder your progress.

However, an article by author, entrepreneur and INC.com writer Andrew Griffiths states that it is simply not enough to learn if we truly want to grow as human beings. He states that although it is important to have the ability to analyse one’s self and their actions much better, individuals must also go out and share their capabilities to the world. We learn from experience, not by being told about it, he says.

There is also a growing need to use the tools gained and lessons learned through self-improvement training and apply them for the improvement of human society as a whole. Online news publisher Moneylife India states in one article that governments are more focused on the wealth aspect of economic growth.

The progress of a society is not just wholly on a country’s GDP, Moneylife argues, but also with improvements to education, healthcare, human rights, and equality. There are nations that rank higher on the social progress spectrum such as Costa Rica. And yet, when measured according to GDP, their rankings vary. This is in contrast to the United States, which despite its status as one of the richest countries in the world, has issues with its healthcare and education systems.

While it is also beneficial to work on the progress of the self, people must also work to uplift others if they wish to make an impact on society. They can achieve this through social development coaching, or other programs that help the individual be more aware of others and how to assess them. One may find that they will experience more growth by helping others grow as well.
