NAT/Routing Mode: A FortiGate device operates in this mode as a Layer 3 device that is capable of routing and serves as a gateway between several networks. Fortigate devices operate in this mode by default.

Transparent Mode: In this mode, every Fortigate device interface is connected to the same network, acting as a bridge across different network segments.

Fortigate registration:

Once the basic installation of your FortiGate is complete, you need to register your device with FortiGate so that you may get all new updates for your device and activate the features associated with your FortiGate unit license. You will need your hostname and SN, which you can find on the Fortigate dashboard, in order to register your FortiGate equipment.

Changing the Firmware:

Download the most recent firmware for your FortiGate device after it has been registered.
