Eye-Catching Line-Up Unveiled For The Ends Festival 2019

by Liz Seyi Digital marketing manager

We have long discussed Croydon’s remarkable musical heritage here on the ISLAND blog, ranging from the days of composer Samuel Coleridge-Taylor in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, right through to the likes of the Beatles and David Bowie performing in the town, as well as – of course – the area’s links to much more contemporary stars like Adele and Stormzy.

Well, the locality’s music events calendar for this year has just become even more exciting than it already was, with a host of acclaimed artists having been announced for The Ends Festival, which will take place at Lloyd Park from Friday 31st May until Sunday 2nd June.

J Balvin, Ghetts and De La Soul all set to star

As reported by the Evening Standard, the festival has expanded a bill that already boasted Nas, Wizkid and Damian Marley as headliners for its inaugural running.

De La Soul, Ghetts and Nadia Rose will all appear on the first day of the event, followed by Maleek Berry, Kranium and Donae’o on the second day. Rounding off the festival on Sunday will be J Balvin, Nao and Masego.

The outdoor event is being launched in partnership with Croydon Council, and is expected to host about 15,000 fans each day. Day tickets are now available at www.theendsfestival.co.uk/tickets, priced from £50.

Who should I especially look out for?

33-year-old J Balvin – real name José Álvaro Osorio Balvin – will certainly be a highlight of festivities in Lloyd Park, the Colombian reggaeton singer having last year released his fifth studio album, Vibras, which produced no fewer than five singles, including the international hit, “Mi Gente”.

Of the other stars lined up, British R&B and soul singer Nao has attracted no shortage of acclaim on account of her unique funk sound; October saw the release of her sophomore album, Saturn, which reached number two on the UK R&B Albums Chart.

Damien Marley, meanwhile, is the youngest son of reggae legend Bob Marley, and has been performing since he was 13. He has released four studio albums, the most recent being 2017’s Stony Hill, and has described his musical style as “dancehall and reggae”.
