Empower the Goddess within You with Vedic Astrology
by Ashley M. Field Explorer And WriterIn devotional practices like Bhakti
Yoga, it's going to seem that the devotee is worshiping an external Goddess or
image. In absolute truth, there's no separation between the divine attributes
of the Goddess that we worship and our true nature. On the human level, though,
any of the attributes of the Goddess that we've disowned could also be
projected onto others (whether God, Goddess or human!)
For most people it's much easier to
"own" the softer attributes of the Goddess; unconditional love,
compassion, acceptance, grace, nurturance and divine protection. These
qualities are demonstrated within the Vedic tradition through Saraswati, the
Goddess of Wisdom, Lakshmi, the Goddess of Abundance, and Parvati, the Divine
Mother herself. For Buddhist practitioners, the Goddesses Tara and Kwan-yin are
often worshiped to bring out these same attributes. In Vedic Astrology,
attunement to the "softer" side of the Goddess is seen within the
chart primarily from aspects between the Moon/Neptune and Venus/Neptune.
As I discussed in my last article,
Venus/Neptune aspects during a chart indicate that the individual is learning
to be an agent or vessel of unconditional love, and Moon. Neptune aspects
indicate a looking for oneness and unity. The challenge with these aspects is
that they're often experienced in their lower manifestation, particularly in
relationships. This might include problems with co-dependence, unhealthy
merging, and lack of boundaries and "other" centeredness at the
expense of one's Self. In order to empower the fullness of the Goddess
altogether her attributes it's necessary to urge to understand the fierce
aspect of the Goddess also, namely Kali or Durga. Kali and Durga, or
Chinnamasta and Bhairavi from the Buddhist traditions, represent the facility
of the Goddess to destroy illusion. To be ready to manifest the fierce energies
of the Goddess requires a willingness to talk the reality without distortion.
One among my teachers is keen on saying that "the truth will set you free,
but first, it's getting to piss you off!
The challenge with manifesting the fierce
aspects of the Goddess is that it takes skill and clarity to deliver the
reality without hurting other people around. This is often very true if one's
truth has been suppressed. When one's truth has been suppressed, it's almost
guaranteed that when it comes out it'll be distorted by the emotions.
Once, once I was working with a client
who had a brief temper and would often "blow people away" together
with his truth, I received a divine equation that. I feel is worth sharing for
instance the purpose. The interpretation is Dogmatism = Truth - Wisdom and
Compassion so as to deliver ones truth it takes a skillful blend of wisdom and
compassion. In other words, truth, delivered wisely and compassion may indeed
"piss other's off" initially but it'll eventually be received because
there's no-thing to defend against. In Vedic Astrology, we see Kali within the
chart particularly through aspects between Moon, Mercury, or Venus with Pluto.
Pluto is that the planet that represents the destruction of illusion and brings
to the surface anything that's hidden or illusory. Moon/Pluto aspects indicate
the "truth-teller" or "whistle-blower" that features a
strong, instinctive "B.S." detector that knows the reality albeit
others are in denial. Mercury/Pluto aspects reveal an incisive mind that
desires to chop away illusion so healing can begin.
And lastly, Venus/Pluto aspects speak
of strong convictions and keenness for the reality albeit it isn't
"pretty." Ultimately, it's through the acceptance of our fierceness
(Pluto) with our compassion (Neptune) that the fullness of the Goddess is
integrated in our lives. As we accept the facility of the Goddess in her fierce
form and clear the distortions of suppressed emotions, we will then skillfully
deliver the reality wisely, love and compassion. Integrating the fullness of
the Goddess in her compassionate and fierce forms also allows us to integrate a
replacement model of empowerment that does not require sacrifice of the
reality. This suggests that we will transcend the old stereotypes of "be
nice or don't say anything at all" and are available into a replacement
integration of truth and compassion. Nirwair Gill is a professional astrologer,
