About Doodhpathri


Known as the ‘Valley of Milk’, Doodhpathri is located in the Budgam district of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. This Himalayan remote hill station is situated at an altitude of almost 9000 feet above sea level.


The christening of this place has an interesting story behind it. A well-known Sufi saint and poet named Sheikh Noor din Nurani when pricked the ground with his stick milk merged out of it. Currently, when you have a glance at the water flowing through the meadows from a distance gives a milky appearance hence, the name ‘Doodhpathri’.


When to Visit Doodhpathri?


Doodhpathri remains cut off from the rest of the region for 6 months a year due to excessive cold when the temperatures drop below 0 degrees Celsius. Hence, the ideal time to visit Doodhpathri is between the months of April to June i.e., the summer season.


How to reach Doodhpathri?


For those choosing airways for travel, the Sheikh ul-Alam International Airport is the only commercial airport in Srinagar. The airport is well-connected with major cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, etc.


The Jammu Tawi Railway Station is the final destination if you choose to travel by train. From here, you can book a cab for a further journey.

One can cover the distance from Srinagar to Doodhpathri by road. The distance to be covered is almost 38 kilometres (around 2 hours). Hence, you can book a taxi or even travel by bus.
