Do You Know The Use Of Grey Kota Slabs ?

Advantages of using  Kota Stone for Flooring:

Kota Stones have wide function in the exterior works for their non-porous, non-absorbent, tough and homogenous properties and is the outstanding building stone for both humid and freezing regions

Availability of the stones in slab and tile form makes it convenient to achieve a different pattern of flooring

It gives affluent aesthetics to both interior and exterior flooring and is cheaper than other stones used in similar functions.

High customization can be achieved because of its availability in sizes of 30*30, 40*40, 30*60, 40*60, 60*60, 50*50, 55*55 and 60*90 centimetres.


Disadvantages of Kota Stone Flooring

Kota stone slabs are not available in bigger sizes like granite or marble. This is because of its brittle nature.

In the longer run Kota Stones flake out. However, if the Kota stones are  well maintained and polished repeatedly the flaking stones can be intercepted to a greater extent

The finished surface is not as luminous or shinny as that of marble and granite

 

Specification for laying grey Kota stone slabs for flooring

 

1. Stone Slabs

The stone slabs must be hard, dense, homogenous and independent from any cracks, decay, weathering, etc. It could be either hand or machine cut for the appropriate thickness. The exposed face should be polished before being placed at the site and also the contractor shall get the slab sample accepted by the concerned Engineer.

 

2. Dressing of Slab

Each slab needs to be adjusted according to the suitable size and shape. The edges need to be either table rubbed or machine rubbed with coarse sand before paving.

Great care should be taken to ensure all angles and edges are true, square and free from chippings. Tolerances of +2mm are acceptable for thickness. With respect to the length and breadth of the slab, tolerance of +5mm and +2 for hand-cut machine cut respectively is acceptable.

 

3. Preparation of surface

The surface upon which the stabs are to be laid should be properly cleaned, wetted and mopped. The bedding mortar of slabs shall be of specified thickness.

  

4. Laying of Kota Stone    

Mortar of specified mix (usually 1:4 Cement: Coarse Sand) is prepared and laid under the area of each slab for the indicated thickness (usually 20mm).

The cleaned stab is laid out on top, pressed and tapped with a wooden mallet in order to bring in the same level of the adjoining slab. The slabs are then fitted and placed aside. The top surface of the mortar is made uniform by filling up the hollow with fresh mortar and is allowed to harden. 

The mortar is then transcended with a cement slurry of honey-like consistency at the rate of 4.4 kg cement per square meter. The slab should be laid gently back in its position. Subsequent slabs are laid in a similar manner and the excess grout coming out of joints of the slabs is cleaned off.
