Do You Know How To Repair Tyres?
by John Cina seoIf you have been driving a car for a
while there is a high chance that you have had to deal with a flat tyre. It is
one of the most common tyre issues that car owners have to contend with no
matter what type of car they drive. The best way to resolve the issue of a flat
tyre is to replace it with a spare. This is the reason why we keep a spare tyre
in our cars, usually in the trunk for most people. However, what if you got a
flat tyre and you found no spare in the trunk? In such an event, you have no
option but to take the car either to a mechanic, or try to repair the flat tyre
yourself. Here is how you can go about repairing a flat tyre on your own.
Make the Necessary Preparations
You will have to take some
preparatory steps before you start to repair the flat tyre. You will have to
ensure that no one is seated in the car when you try to find out the exact spot
which has caused the tyre to go flat. Moreover, you will need to apply the
handbrake as well to ensure that the car remains still while the repair work is
being done. Next, you need to take out the tyre repair kit, sealant and
compressor from the car’s trunk. These are the tools you will need to repair
the tyre.
Determine the Puncture Site
Before the reparation of the tyre
begins, you will have to determine the sight of the puncture. Locating the hole
in the tyre requires you to take a good look at it. If there is a nail or a
piece of glass protruding from the tyre, then that is clearly the culprit. Do
keep in mind that hole shouldn’t be more than 4mm in diameter. If it is larger
than this, then it can’t be repaired and you will have no choice but to replace
it with a spare.
Repair the Puncture
The repairing of the puncture
requires you to pump the sealant into the tyre. You will have to take off the
tyre’s valve in order to accomplish this task. Once the sealant has spread into
the tyre, you need to give it some time to
seal the hole. Now, attach the compressor and pump air into the tyre.
Double check that the tyre is in fact increasing in pressure as this is
important, and then bring it to your the
air pressure level indicated as required by your car manufacturer.
