Considerations to Make for Central Air Conditioning Systems

by GDY Airtech Enterprises Consultant
Central air conditioning has become the preferred type of HVAC system by many commercial and industrial establishments as well as households around the world. Compared to regular single air conditioners units, they provide advantages such as:

  • Higher quality, cleaner air
  • More effective air circulation
  • Ease of operation, and
  • Less noise generation

that make them appealing investments to make. However, before you decide on anything else and start dismantling your old air conditioners, there are some factors that you have to take note of.

Central Air conditioning

Choosing the Right Type

There are some that categorize central AC systems into four types, but they are more often simplified into two types: the split-system and the packaged.

The split system (as its name implies) is separated into two units: the outdoor and the indoor -- which are connected by refrigerant lines. The outdoor unit contains the condenser and compressor while the indoor has the evaporator and blower. It is usually considered the more economical choice if there hasn't been an AC system installed yet.

The packaged types, one the other hand, have all their components contained in one unit located outside the building. This kind of centralized system's unit is either placed on the rooftops or at the side of the building. The flexibility that packaged central air conditioning offers installation options has made it popular for commercial applications.

To Install or Not to Install Duct Systems

If the house or building doesn't have any existing ducts, cost and space considerations will have to be made for a new duct system and potential repairs -- especially if you will be installing a packaged type system. But if you do not want to install ducts (or don't have the budget for them), you can opt for the ductless mini split-system which do not need ducts to circulate the air.

Size Matters

The AC tonnage needed for efficient cooling depends on the size of the building. If you install an oversized system, it can cause discomfort by not properly dealing with the humidity in the air. Undersized ones will not be able to perform well and will eat away at your energy bills and strain its parts. The contractor should be able to calculate the heat load properly and provide guidance in choosing the right size of AC unit.

Ask for Professional Help First

Installing a central air conditioning system offers many benefits that conventional AC systems don't. But it is always important to consult with professional technicians or HVAC companies before having one installed in your home or your business. Get in touch with the most reliable one in town before making the move to a more energy efficient air conditioning system.
