How To Avoid Air Conditioning Service Scams

by GDY Airtech Enterprises Consultant
Air conditioning systems are now a necessity to keep cool especially in urban areas. Hot days are unbearable if you don’t have an aircon at home or at work.  Sadly, there are people who will pose as professional aircon services and take advantage of you.

Here are 5 ways to avoid being a victim of air conditioning scams.

Do a DIY Check First

If you think your window or central air conditioning system is faulty, do your research for possible reasons. There are tons of websites that provide valid information on aircon problems.

Check Out Reviews

When there’s really a need for repair, usually you look for local air conditioning system services online. Be mindful of the advertised price. Most homeowners become victims because they prefer those who are cheap. But on the other hand, expensive doesn't also mean reliable. Check out the reviews first if there are any.

Are They Professional?

Any reputable company will want to be seen as professional and trustworthy. They are courteous and aren’t afraid to show you that they know what they are doing. Don’t hesitate to ask for licenses and any other official documents that prove their identity.

Make Sure the Technician Shows You the Damage

Most homeowners do not know the ins and outs of their air-conditioning system. This means that they rely a lot on their technician for diagnosis and solutions. This is where the scamming starts.

Here’s a scenario: The technician will tell you that you need to change a specific part ASAP because it is not functioning well.

To make sure that you will have an idea that he knows what he was talking about, instruct him to show you the damage and prove to you that not changing such part will cause further damage. To make sure, do your research or ask for a second opinion.

Give Importance to Annual Inspection

To avoid bigger problems and repairs, it would be better if you avail an annual inspection with a trusted repair and maintenance shop. You can schedule it before the peak of summer since it can be less expensive and not very busy.

Bonus Tip:

There are already many cases of scams happening (not just with aircon businesses) and unfortunately, filing a case against the company is tedious and expensive, especially if you do not have strong evidence. That is why it is important to put every transaction you had with the repairman. You can use this as strong evidence if such an unfortunate time comes.
