Common Uses of Pipes and Tubes Made Using Stainless Steel

by Kristen White Blogger
Stainless steel came into existence almost one hundred years ago and since then, the metal has been used in a lot of industries to make different products. One of the common products made using steel are tubes and pipes. The pipes made using stainless steel have a number of uses due to the positive properties of the metal.

Even though steel was in existence for so many centuries, the scientists had to find the appropriate alloys that would be used to make steel to ensure that it is resistant to corrosion.  In 1912, stainless steel which had a lot of superior qualities was developed to resolve the corrosion issue. It is utilized in the manufacture of 321 stainless steel tube. In this article, we are going to review the main uses of the pipes made using stainless steel.

Why is Stainless Steel Preferred?

321 stainless Steel tube and many other alloys of stainless steel are preferred by most industries.
The primary reason why stainless steel is preferred for the different applications is that it is resistant to corrosion. There are different alloys that offer different levels of resistance to corrosion. The most common alloys are 304 stainless steel that offers the best level of resistance to corrosion. However, in the marine environment, it is not usually utilized since it is vulnerable to chloride. Instead, another alloy of steel such as 316 is utilized.

Stainless steel and Al6Xn tubing are also more ductile as compared to the other metals. Once used in different applications, it will also still remain to be durable.

Uses of Pipes and Tubes

Due to the nature of the purposes of the tubes, it is important to use an element which is resistant to corrosion in their manufacture. This is the reason why stainless steel is the most preferred metal in the manufacture of pipes. Given that the pipes and tubes usually come in different sizes and shapes, they are classified according to their uses or applications as follows.

The common application of the stainless pipes is their use in the making of the sanitary tubing. Sanitation is one of the common considerations in food and beverage making. The main reason why it is actually used in the food and beverage industry is due to the ease of cleaning. They also do no tarnish easily making it appropriate for its usage in the industry.

It is also used in the aerospace field and engineering activities. Most of the alloys that are made using the chromium metal offer high resistance to heat. This is an important consideration when making aircraft. The stainless steel needs to remain strong at all times after it has been welded with the other metals.

The pipes made up of stainless steel are also resistant to high pressure. The pipes are usually made using the chromium and nickel elements. It usually works well in the corrosive or the high-temperature applications.
