Coal Car Chemical Engineering Project - Coal Methanol and Olefin Conversion Project

by Rudy P. SysAdmin at howtofindthemoney

Recently, the project of producing 1.7 million tons of methanol and converting olefins from coal in Zhongan United Coal Chemicals Co., Ltd. was further reported. The car methanol synthesis and sulfur recovery unit contracted by Nanjing Engineering Company of Sinopec was successfully completed in Zhongjiao. Up to now, China has handed in 18 of 76 major projects of Sino-Angolan Coal Chemical Industry Project.

Methanol synthesis plant is the main production device of coal chemical engineering project, and sulfur recovery plant is the environmental protection device of coal car chemical engineering project. The two sets of plants were built simultaneously on June 8, 2017, and lasted 16 months. The smooth and punctual China-Foreign Exchange has brought the coal chemical project a step closer to the goal of comprehensive China-Foreign Exchange for the plant.

On the morning of October 28, the coal gasification plant of the 1.7 million tons/year methanol and conversion olefin project of Zhongan United Coal Chemical Co., Ltd. was put into operation.

As the leader of coal chemical engineering project, coal gasification unit is the key device of Zhongan United 1.7 million tons/year coal methanol and olefin conversion project. The original patent of Sinopec and East China University of Technology, SE-Oriental Furnace, uses coal as raw material, oxygen and water vapor as gasification agent. The crude syngas with carbon monoxide and hydrogen as effective components is produced to realize the effective conversion of raw coal, to provide raw materials for methanol synthesis and other processes, and finally to produce polypropylene, polyethylene and other products.

The project car of 1.7 million tons/year coal to methanol and conversion of olefins in Zhongan United Coal Industry and Chemical Co., Ltd. is a key construction project of Sinopec and Anhui Province. The core process and gasification unit of the project adopt S-MTO patented technology of Sinopec’s independent intellectual property rights and SE-Oriental Furnace technology respectively. Using Zhujixi Coal Mine as raw material, methanol and converted olefins (LDPE/PP), ethylene glycol (MEG) and other products were produced. The project is scheduled to be completed in June 2019.

Why convert methanol to olefins ?

The methanol or coal to olefins (MTO / CTO) process is produces olefins which can be reacted to produce polyolefins (polymers), in turn are used to make many different plastic materials. The MTO / CTO process is used to produce ethylene and propylene, the two most consumed raw materials in the petrochemical industry. Methanol can first be obtained from coal or natural gas, or it can be synthesized. The MTO / CTO technology is now currently considered as an alternative process to the production of ethylene and propylene from petroleum.

Brazed aluminium heat exchangers (BAHX) used in cryogenic distillation are key equipment to meet the Methanol To Olefins and Coal To Olefins process requirements in terms of purification of olefins and polyolefins
