“Bolsa Familia”, the Landmark social welfare program in Brazil, Completes 15 Years

Penedo, Brasil, (October 05, 2018): A Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) Program of Brazil, the “Bolsa Familia” is a social welfare program of the Government of Brazil. It was initiated in 2003 to transfer income directly to families who live in very poor conditions and in abject poverty in the nation Brazil. The Programas sociales has recently turned 15, and is being recognized as one of the turning points in the social history of the country.

Since 2011, it has become a part of the highly useful No Misery Plan that brings different steps together to assist beneficiary families of Bolsa get relief from extreme poverty and get nutritional security, fight poverty and various types of deprivation and get access to social welfare, education, health and other basic public services. The Programas sociales del Gobierno has been making entrepreneurship and employment opportunities for members of such poor families.

In 2004, the program’s first phase began with a loan of USD572 million. Successive phases found it taking giant leaps in reducing poverty and offering social protection to the poor. In the first 10 years, it removed as many as 36 million Brazilians from abject poverty and misery. In 2015, a U.N report stated that this was one of the most successful social welfare programs in history. Bolsa Familia 2019 is expected to remove even more people from poverty.
