Bruce Bates   Cooperative marketing For me I look at a couple factors: First do they have any paid campaigns running on google using adwords - if they do then they are not that good at seo - else they'd be getting customers from natural searches not adwords. Second I check to see what keywords they are trying to rank for and if they are in fact ranking on those terms. Nothing is worse than an SEO company that can't get their own site to rank for high performing search terms. Third I evaluate what methods they use to achieve that seo. If they are secretive about it in any way - I will not do business with them. Nothing is worse than hiring an SEO company and finding out they are doing blackhat methods to give you rankings. Far to many businesses have been lost because owners hired the wrong SEO people. Last if they do NOT need access to my content, I will not hire them. SEO is VASTLY related to the way a website is setup, the outgoing links, link titles, image titles, alt tags, keyword density, and a great deal of other things. Anyone that claims they can achieve SEO from backlinks alone (even if those backlinks are from social shares) its not a good seo company.
