Benefits of Traffic Bollards

by Vikash Ojha Blogger, Developer, Web Designer
Bollards are vertical structures found on roadsides, in front of shops, buildings, etc. they have different purposes and are made of different material. Among all types of bollards, traffic bollards are most essential for a city. They control the traffic and provide a security system. Collapsible safety cones are another structure meant to draw the attention of the motorists. The advantages of both the safety measures are:

  • Provide safety for pedestrians.

  • Draws the attention of the motorists and instructs them to slow down.

  • The traffic is brought under control and a closely controlled pattern.

Purpose of Bollards

Most metal traffic bollards are used for protecting people using the footpath, and buildings from vehicles. They are either attached on to the ground or are placed in a line for the purpose providing security. The latter can also be used to prohibit vehicles from entering a zone that is under construction. They are often painted with bright colors so that they catch the attention of motorists. Apart from bollards another security system includes the use of collapsible cones. They come in bright orange and yellow colors and are movable.

Purpose of the safety cones

Collapsible safety cones being made of plastic and not attached to the ground has every reason to fall down instantly after being hit by a car or even a bicycle. They are usually used around the construction zone in the middle of the road. They are meant to alarm the motorists of the work in the middle of the road and instructing them to slow down. Collapsible cone are easy to carry around as they compact into a small size.

Bollards vs. safety cones

The traffic bollards attached to the ground can be used only as a permanent solution the pedestrian safety. They do not get easily damaged. They are embedded onto the roads so that even if a motorist loses control of his vehicle he does not bump into the pedestrians increasing the fatalities. They used in front of buildings so that the motorists do not park in front of them giving no way for people to enter into the building. The safety cones cannot be used as a permanent divider between the footpath and the road. They can only be used as a security system for short-term circumstances.

The traffic bollards and collapsible safety cones have their own purposes. While one acts as a permanent solution, the other one functions as a safety measurement for temporary scenarios. They are used mostly on busy roads and streets where the chances of accidents are more because of the increased number of motorist and pedestrians. Both of them are useful for the control of traffic and play a major part in ensuring the security system on the roads. They also define the level of development of the country as the organized traffic system shows the government’s concern over the safety of the public.
