Dandia Raas - Folk Dance
Dandia Raas - Folk Dance

This socio-religious folk dance marks its origins from Gujarat and is majorly performed during Navaratri festival with the only condition of being done in a pair of two or a group of even number of people. It highlights the loving and humorous Krishna and Radha’s raas leela with all the other gopis and gwalas moving in joyous rhythm.

The colorful clothes draped in descent festive manner with abundant jewels and flashy makeup also add up to the aesthetic theory of feelings and emotions of this dance form. Batik is one of the most popular art forms that originated in Indonesia and is done using the technique of wax-resist dyeing on a cotton cloth by either making dots or lines of the resist with a sprouted tool called tjanting.

This painting aptly fulfils the characteristics with the bright yellow background and the haphazard yet beautiful looking lines spread all around; a group of six young ladies spread their charisma and happiness while performing their soulful dandiya raas with a pair of bamboo sticks in each of their hands that beats with the rhythm of the music and their footsteps; clothed in elegant attires of chaniya-choli and a contrasting bandhani dupatta along with similar beaded white jewellery that goes well with their attires.

Their love, involvement and fun can be easily identified by the flow of their dresses and their never-ending happy smiles.
