The men’s Soccer team in Australia is nicknamed as Socceroos. The local governing of Australia called Football Federation Australia (FFA), organized a soccer league known as A-League. A-League is the very primary competition sport at the top of Australian League System. The A-League was formed in 2004 and is known as the successor of National Soccer League (NSL). Currently, the league consists of eleven teams, ten from Australia itself and one from New Zealand. Hyundai Motor Company runs through the sponsorship program so it is known as Hyundai A-League.

The eight teams would be part of the league with one team from each city of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Newcastle, and a New Zealand team and one from either Melbourne or Sydney, remaining on the expressions of the interest. The founding eight teams for the A-League were Adelaide United, Newcastle Jets, New Zealand Knights, Perth Glory, Central Coast Mariners, Melbourne Victory, Queensland Roar and Sydney FC. 

The competition runs from October to May that is the summer season of Australia. There are 27 rounds in regular season from which the top six ranked teams comes in the grand final. The winner team of the grand final wins the national Champions Trophy. 

There are two types of trophies in the National Soccer game of regular season- Premier’s Plate and the A-League trophy. The top first and second scored teams of the regular season compete in the second week of grand final called semi-final and the team that scores the most wins the Premier’s Plate Trophy. The team who wins the grand finale gets the place in National Champions leagueand presented with the A-League Trophy. The A-League does not award with the prize money.

The position of top six teams depends on the higher number of points accumulated during the regular season. If the two or more teams are on the same level of points then the following criteria is applied in order to determine the highest rank of one of the teams.
Lowest number of red cards collected
Lowest number of yellow cards collected
Highest goal difference
Highest number of goal scored
Highest number of goals scored in matches between the teams concerned
Highest number of points collected in matches between the teams concerned
Toss of a coin
