Wellness education! Wellness signifies a more contemporary approach towards maintaining good health. As a concept, it is extremely novel and is considered to be highly holistic in terms of overall well-being. It raises being healthy to the level of art, not limiting it to being a utilitarian activity which is the result of indulging in few good habits.


What makes wellness unique?


The concept of wellness draws inspiration from the definition of health provided by the United Nations that, it doesn't state mental as well as physical well-being. However, it is unique in the sense that it allows an individual to choose their path of well-being. This is the core essence of wellness education. Working out at the gym it's not the only way of maintaining a fit body, there are other alternative practices as well which an individual can indulge in, such as yoga, Zumba, et cetera. Wellness focuses on the aspect that in matters of personal well being, the individual ought to have some autonomy to decide the path they should be taking, from amongst the plethora of options available. 


Various dimensions of wellness


Wellness is quite broad in terms of its scope. However these are the key areas which are quite central to it, and has been agreed upon by several experts belonging to the field.


Awareness about prevention of ailments :- One of the key aspects of leading a healthy life is the state of freedom from all possible kinds of physical ailments. Wellness is more about the indulgence in activities which help one to keep health issues away. Health related issues are not always about diseases, but more importantly it has to do with maintaining the bodily functions well for a longer period of time. 


Maintaining good habits :- Healthy habits involve maintaining a proper health regimen, adhering to a proper diet chart and on an overall basis leading a disciplined lifestyle. Wellness is polar opposite of indulgence. It never prevents people from relishing on things an individual loves, rather it instills the sentiment of following the path of moderation. 


Prioritising mental health at par with physical health :- One cannot be considered as being well, if one is not having a healthy body, and a healthy mind. This concept dates back to the times of the Ancient Greek civilisation, and is also an important part of the contemporary definition agreed upon by the major health research organisations of the world.


Guidance in terms of leading a healthy lifestyle :- Physical health and mental health, act like they are complementary to each other. Anything affecting one, either positively or negatively, will have a cascading effect on the other. Hence, healthy lifestyle involves activities which have benign effect on the overall well being


Wrapping up 

Wellness education, by virtue of its approach of treating human well being in a holistic and inclusive manner is gaining popularity. It is also being endorsed by celebrities and common people alike.
