Andile Ngcaba sues Dimension Data for R441 Million
by Johnse Na Andile NgcabaAndile
Ngcaba is locked in a legal battle with Dimension Data, a subsidiary of the
Japanese company NTT Holdings. The
former chairman of Dimension Data Middle East & Africa, Ngcaba has filed a lawsuit against the company on grounds of
racial discrimination. The R441 million lawsuit is seeking R261.3 million in
damages that were not paid to Ngcaba and
R170 million for racial discrimination. In addition to this, the lawsuit also
seeks R10 million for the racial slurs and insults that Andile Ngcaba had to
face during his tenure in the company.
The issue dates back to 2016 when
Andile Ngcaba, who was working with the company at the time, received
information that the senior executives and other staff members were being given
an incentive scheme. Meanwhile Ngcaba, a
senior company functionary, was denied the incentives.
Andile Ngcaba decided to address
the matter in a labour dispute resolution body in 2017 but lost the case
against the company. He had stepped down as the chairman of Dimension Data
Middle East & Africa in early 2017. Ngcaba decided to file the R441 million lawsuit in a court
in Johannesburg.
Referring to his exclusion from
the bonuses as institutional racism, Ngcaba is of the firm opinion that his fight is for justice,
and to expose the issues of unequal pay and discrimination at Dimension Data. Ngcaba is determined to take the fight to the high court and
seek damages for the unfair treatment meted out to him by the company.
An anti-apartheid activist, Andile
Ngcaba is a prominent South African personality. He has worked under President
Nelson Mandela as the Director General of Communications and Post-Master
General from 1994 to 2003. In 2004, he took over as the chairman of Dimension
Data Middle East & Africa and remained in this position until early 2017.
As expected, Dimension Data has
denied the allegations, but the company was also involved in an issue with
Internet service provider iSAT in 2019. The company was sued by iSAT over a
system failure. Dimension Data had admitted that it had failed to maintain its
CVM solution for nearly four years.
Andile Ngcaba’s lawsuit will be heard in court on November 10.
