It is safe to say that every individual on this planet suffers from a headache at some point in time in his/her life. Of course, the forms, severity, and reasons are different, which also vary from one person to another. However, it is important to gain a clear understanding of the different varieties, so that one can treat it accordingly. Listed below are some of the most common types of headaches:

1.Tension headaches

These are by far the most common type, which is experienced by adults and adolescents. They trigger mild to moderate pain and occur frequently over a long period of time. By applying hot and cold pack, one can often find respite in such conditions.

2.Migraines

Characterized by a pounding or throbbing sensation, migraines cause moderate to severe pain. Lasting from four hours to up to three days, they usually occur about one to four times a month. Some of the symptoms of Migraines include nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, stomach upset, and abdominal pain. In the case of children, the symptoms may also include dizziness, blurred vision, and fever. Migraines may be treated by the use of effective hot & cold gel packs.

3.Mixed headache syndrome

Also known as transformed migraines, this syndrome is primarily a combination of a migraine and tension headaches. It is experienced by adults as well as children.

4.Cluster headaches

This is the most severe in form, causing constant burning or piercing pain sensations. In fact, the pain is so intense, that in most cases, the individual is unable to sit still, and is forced to pace up and down. They may occur one to three times in a day during a cluster period of two weeks to three months.

5.Sinus headaches

These are described as a deep and constant pain in the cheekbones, forehead, or bridge of the nose. In most cases, sudden head movement or straining may amplify the pain. Other sinus symptoms include nasal discharge, the sensation of fullness in the ears, fever, and facial swelling.

6.Chronic progressive headaches

Often referred to as traction or inflammatory headaches, these are the ones which start getting worse over time and result in frequent occurrences. In most situations, the primary cause of this condition is an ailment or disorder of the brain/skull.
