India has become a major hub of logistics service providers all around the globe. The remarkable growth of the economy is the major driving force of high logistics demand in India. This flow of distribution of things from the starting point to the end customers makes sure that there is a smooth coordination between demand and supply. While the logistics industry in India is still in a ripe form, the resources are not yet fully utilized with further scope for improvement. The sole purpose of logistics in India or anywhere for that matter is enabling an effective transportation system for movement of goods from one place to another in a timely manner.
Various mediums used by logistic services in India:-

1. Land transport:- This is one of the most popular choices for transportation used by leading logistics companies in India. The wide network of roadways in India has withstood the test of time and made gradual improvements for smooth flow of goods. Roads serve as a great medium for shipping heavy articles such as machinery, heavy goods, machinery etc.

2. Air freight:- This is one of the fastest means of shipping goods in a safe manner.  Air freight serves the need for same day delivery as well.

3. Railways:- While the trend of using railways for shipping is not a recent one, it is one of the most cost-effective methods which have been in use for quite a long time. It is mostly used in domestic delivery services.

4. Waterways:- Especially used for the transportation of hazardous goods such as oil or uranium, waterways have been an essential part of the logistic system since long. Even for international shipment of goods, waterways serve as a great deal.

The scope of logistics services in India:-

While there is no denying the fact that logistics industry in India is on the boom, it is the interplay of technology, infrastructure and types of service providers that determine the scope for future growth. The changing policies of service providers and taxation rules also play a major part in the regulation of logistics in India. Multimodal transportation especially faces problems because it has to seek permission from multiple ministries.

Challenges faced by premium logistic providers in India:-

Unskilled manpower combined with traditional business methods followed by manual follow up culture has reduced the pace of technology-driven transportation solutions. The plethora of quality neutral clients, on the other hand, has made the service providers way more lenient. The faulty tracking system also adds up to the problems of logistics service providers in India.
