Alaska Lawyers Know Multiple Ways To Make You Money

by Kristen White Blogger
Personal Injury Attorneys
For a personal injury attorney to be successful, there are certain qualities he or she must possess.  These include, but are not limited to (i) knowing the law, which continually evolves, (ii) knowing relevant medical information, so that when a doctor is on the witness stand, he can ask the correct questions and help a judge or jury understand the extent of injuries, (iii) experience, (iv) honesty, as clients, judges and other attorneys that respect your attorney are going to usually help gain positive results, (v) commitment, because a lazy attorney will not afford you the best chance at significant compensation, (vi) respect, because an attorney known for properly handling cases and being respectful to others is more likely to achieve a quicker and better settlement, and (vii) trial and negotiation skills, because an attorney that knows how to try a case is more likely to not have to do so, resulting in a better settlement for the client.

And when you are undergoing the process of seeking out an attorney, take at least the following steps:  (i) list the criteria you want in your lawyer, (ii) list a few attorneys to meet from referrals, online directories, etc., (iii) research online those lawyers and reduce the number of names on your list to between 3 and 5, (iv) set up meetings, (v) meet the attorneys, and (vi) be sure to sign a retainer agreement with one.

Workers’ Compensation Claims

The same rules above apply when Looking For Ak Compensation Lawyers.  Importantly, an employee injured while working cannot sue their employer, except in limited circumstances.  Rather than a lawsuit, injured workers make claims for workers’ compensation benefits.
In Alaska, there are temporary disability benefits (paid while you recover and receive treatment for your injuries) and permanent disability benefits (paid once an injured party meets point that he is fully healed or will not be able to heal anymore).

Payment is made as follows:

1.Temporary total disability benefits are paid for the period you must take time off from work to recover.  Typically calculated at 80% of gross weekly income, Alaska sets minimum (no less than $273.00 per week) and maximum (no more than $1,239.00 per week) rates of compensation.  Your level of earnings must be proven.

2.Temporary partial disability benefits are paid during the period you are able to work in some capacity, but not fully.  If your employer is able to accommodate medical restrictions by giving you alternative work at a lower rate of pay, Workers’ Compensation benefits will total 80% of the difference between gross weekly income before and after injury.

3.Those determined to be permanently disabled and unable to work anymore will be awarded permanent total disability benefits, typically 80% of gross weekly income, to last as long as she is totally disabled.

Clearly, there is a lot to know when it comes to any area of personal injury, which is why it is so important to retain a Personal Injury Attorney In Alaska and not prosecute cases on your own.  The same is true when searching for an attorney, especially in light of the differing process, different types of payments and method of prosecuting such a claim.  Going it alone typically leads to unfavorable results.
