Advantages of Blastocyst Embryo Transfer

by Shivani Sachdev Founder & Director

Below are the main advantages of Blastocyst Embryo Transfer Treatment:

Embryos with development potential can be identified: The likelihood of the fertilized eggs develops into blastocysts is only 20 to 30 percent. So, there is a higher chance of successful implantation of embryo, if it reaches this stage.

The moment of blastocyst transfer is ideal: It takes around five days after fertilization for the embryo to reach the uterine cavity where it implants for further development in a natural pregnancy. The same is also applicable in case of pregnancy with Blastocyst Embryo Transfer. It is presumed that the lining of the uterus is generally receptive in nature on this day.

Success rate of Blastocyst Embryo Transfer

The likelihood of getting pregnant after Blastocyst Embryo Transfer is very high. Compared to embryo transfer at an early development stage (day 2 or 3) the chances are increased by around 7% with Blastocyst Embryo Transfer. In women up to the age of 30, the chance of successful pregnancy is between 45 and 50 percent, and for women aged 30-39 the chance is between 35 and 40 percent.  However, Blastocyst Embryo Transfer does not provide the same positive results for all women. The women with a low egg count and quality may surely benefit from a day-3 transfer, in which the embryos are transferred in to her uterus at an earlier stage. For the best possible chance of success for each woman, reproductive medicine specialist’s work together with the patient to determine the best transfer method for her, which is a part of personalized and individual medical approach?

How Blastocyst Embryo Transfer helps couples achieve pregnancy

In the process conventional IVF treatment, embryos are developed usually for two to three days before being transferred back into the uterus.  At this stage of development, the embryo normally has between four and eight cells inside the zona pellucida or shell, they must continue to develop inside the uterus for next four to five additional days before they become blastocyst stage embryos that are ready and adequate to implantation.  Most IVF cycles will produce multiple embryos. The Blastocyst Embryo Transfer centre follows the guidelines released by the American Society for Reproductive Medicine regarding how many embryos should be safely transferred at any one time.  Because blastocysts may have a higher implantation potential than less advanced embryos transfer technology, fewer are transferred. Most of the time, only one best quality blastocyst is recommended for the transfer, remaining blastocysts may be frozen for later use. This is good news for IVF patients, and something your fertility physician will fully explain to you during your consultations regarding the treatment.

Why Not Blastocyst Embryo Transfer for Everyone?

A poor embryo can't transform into a good embryo with Blastocyst Embryo Transfer. There can be some couples that unable create embryos with a high quality. In these cases, blastocyst transfer and culture may allow the IVF team to observe how these embryos grow and can identify reasons for previous treatment failures. There may be some couples who are unable to create embryos which successfully reach the blastocyst stage. These are the few reasons that suggest that Blastocyst Embryo Transfer is not for everyone.

This treatment is available at SCI Healthcare and SCI IVF Hospital by Dr Shivani Sachdev Gour and her team at very affordable cost.
