A Weekend in Berlin: Where to Go In & Near Germany's Capital City
by Auto Europe International Car Rental BrokerThere are a lot more attractions to see in Berlin than its historical structures and monuments. Berlin, Germany is an amazing place for everybody, with its museums, parks, cathedrals, shopping malls and cafes, and even destinations outside of the city itself, and it deserves to be explored from every perspective.
So grab your family and friends, and get ready for an adventure!
Hackesche Hoefe
A place carrying both memorial and entertaining purposes, Hackesche Hoefe brings every tourist to explore its depth. Get lost in the historical monuments, boards, and plaques for one hour, and have an amazing meal or a shopping spree after that. There is a list of local shops you can enjoy with your family or by yourself, where you can buy amazing designed clothes and handmade souvenirs.
Berlin Cathedral
This cathedral is one of the most important Protestant churches and architecture destinations. While it requires an entrance fee to view from the inside, you can also get an amazing guided tour included in the price. Paintings of the cathedral’s history, burial monuments, and sculptures – don’t miss an opportunity to be a part of this incredible journey. If you’re tough enough and ready to climb several hundred stairs, you’ll see a lot of beautiful panoramic views.
Potsdamer Platz
This is an amazing place to see if you’re curious about old places becoming more modern with times. A Potsdamer Platz district is being renewed for the pleasure of citizens but already has a lot to present to tourists. Big malls and The Sony building will bring a lot of entertainment to families and couples, and you can always find a good restaurant for a quick meal in the middle of the day.
East Side Gallery
This part of the Berlin Wall is an amazing place to walk through for artistic people who are interested in the history of art, too. East Side Gallery is a monument that has been restored for creative purposes, and a huge group of artists drew their pieces here since the fall of the wall. While the government tries to eliminate vandalism, you can still see it. Yet, you should still take a walk here if you’re interested in free places to visit.
Rakotzbrücke
Rakotzbrücke, also called the Devil Bridge, has an amazing form, which forms a full circle by reflecting in the water beneath. It’s located in Kromlauer Park, and it’s best to access it by driving there from Berlin. It’s definitely a worthwhile day trip to see even by the locals, especially in fall. Please note that crossing the bridge is prohibited to preserve the monument itself.
Usedom Island
If you’re looking for a one day trip to the seaside to bathe in the sun and feel yourself in paradise – the Island of Usedom will be perfect or you. Only 2 hours away from Berlin in a car rental, and accessible for tourists, you'll find incredible sandy beaches and spa facilities to enjoy. You can also take a quick stop in a comfy hotel. In case you are a classical music lover, it's worth coming in autumn for the classical music festival, too.Sponsor Ads
