6 Travel Essentials To Bring on Your Vacation

by Sierra Powell Writer

Your highly anticipated getaway is just around the corner. Real life and all of its responsibilities will be put on a hiatus for a few days. It's time to enjoy one of your favorite destinations or someplace else that can be checked off your bucket list. Plan ahead to make sure you have everything you need before you leave.

Don't Forget Your Medications

If you take any type of prescription medications, tuck them in your travel bag. Check your pill count. Call the doctor if it's time for a refill. Include ibuprofen, antacids, and tablets to ward off motion sickness. Band-Aids and an antibiotic ointment won't hurt in case there is a need for minor cuts. Sunscreen is another essential if you plan on spending time out in the sun. An antihistamine is wise if you have allergies. Look up regulations about vaccinations at the place where you will stay and make sure to bring your vaccination card. You may need to have a test for COVID-19 whether you have been vaccinated or not before you can travel on a plan or check-in for your reservation.

Check Your Wallet

You never want to be short on funds when traveling. Make sure your wallet is carrying all the necessities, like cash and credit cards. Consider carrying small bills in your wallet. Leave your bank debit card at home. If you lose a credit card, it won't be tied to your bank account. A pre-paid credit card is another option if you are concerned about theft or loss. Your license, a current passport, and health insurance cards are also a must. If you're driving, have your registration and insurance information on hand as well.

Pack Snacks and Beverages

If you're driving, pack a cooler with water and other favorite beverages. Grab-and-go snacks that are pre-packaged or in baggies are easy for individual servings. You should bring healthy foods that will give you energy and fill you up when you have a long stretch on the road. A reusable water tumbler is another plus to keep you hydrated while also being conscious of the environment. Check with what you are allowed to bring on board if you are taking public transportation.

Take the Weather into Account When Choosing Clothing

Consider the weather at your destination when choosing what to wear. If you're headed someplace tropical, go with something light like IBKUL tops, shorts, and sundresses. Bring a bathing suit for the pool or the beach. Include something dressy for a night out. A cover-up or sweater can keep you comfortable on cooler days or in the evenings. Bring more than one pair of shoes, such as sneakers for walking and sandals for the beach.

Bring Your Media Accessories

If you are like most people in today's modern world, there's a cellphone in your pocket. A travel case will protect your phone while you are on the go. Your suitcase should include your charger, headphones, and any other type of media device you would like. A tablet, portable DVD player, and Mp3 player are perfect when you're lazing in the sun or the kids need entertainment. The weather is unpredictable. Having something to play music or watch videos on is a great way to fill your time when you have to stay in.

Be Prepared to Capture the Moment

Pictures are the only way to bring back memories from vacation. Your cellphone or camera should be checked off on your to-do list before you set off on your adventure. If you don't have a camera, this may be the time to invest in one. You can even go with disposable cameras for an inexpensive alternative. A video camera is another option if you'd like more than photographs to relive the excitement.

Going on vacation should be the best way to relax for as long as possible. Don't add stress to your life by being careless when packing. Go through all of your bags before you leave. If family members or friends are joining you, ask them to check their belongings as well. Save yourself a trip to the first department store you find when you arrive. Once you get away, enjoying yourself should be your only goal.
