6 Reasons You Should Be Focusing on LinkedIn

by Mitch Vinnitsky Net Integrity Inc

Chances are, by this point you’ve at least created a LinkedIn account. But then what? Maybe you haven’t logged in for months, or longer. Or, maybe you’re one of the few who hasn’t bothered with LinkedIn at all. Perhaps you figure, you’re happily employed, possibly even a business owner, so what’s the point?

If you’re in either of these categories, here are a few reasons why you (and everyone in your property management company) should be on LinkedIn.

Recruiters

According to a study by Jobvite, 94% of recruiters say they use LinkedIn to source candidates. Yet, only 36% of job seekers are on the platform. These lopsided results mean you could be missing out on some prime opportunities. Even if you’re happy right where you are, it can’t hurt to keep your eyes and ears open. The next best thing could be right around the corner, but if you’re not on there, you’ll miss it.

Build Trust

Many people mistakenly view LinkedIn as just a glorified resume, but while it’s certainly a tool for seeking talent and work opportunities, there’s also a significant social side to the platform. For instance, you can update a status, share content (yours or others) and engage in discussions. This activity can position you as a thought leader in the property management realm and build trust – something that’s challenging to do in the digital age.

Digital Reputation

What do people see when they Google you or your company’s name - whether it’s a hiring manager, a colleague or a potential property management customer? Because LinkedIn is such a high-ranking site, existing profiles will show up at or near the top of the search results. This makes it a great tool for managing your online reputation.

Expand your Network

It’s been said that it’s not so much what you know, but who you know, and that’s certainly the case in the property management industry. LinkedIn is a powerful tool for connecting with others that you might not otherwise be able to connect with and expanding your network. This can come in very handy down the road when it’s time to collaborate, nurture leads and forge partnerships.

Watch the Competition

Knowing what your competition is up to is an important part of being successful in any business, and property management is no exception. You can learn a lot from other property managers, including what’s worked for them and what hasn’t. This will enable you to fast-track effective strategies while you avoid making similar mistakes. LinkedIn lets you keep your finger on the pulse of what’s going on with others in the industry.

Drive Traffic and Leads

Last, but most certainly not least, LinkedIn happens to be one of the biggest sources of website traffic and subsequent business leads. When a prospective customer looking for property management services searches on Google, chances are a few LinkedIn profiles will pop up in the results. If yours isn’t among them, those clicks and possible conversions will inevitably go to your competitors. Can you really afford that?

Still think LinkedIn isn’t worth your time and effort? Think again. If you’ve treated this growing social platform as an afterthought up until this point, the time to start turning things around is now. Otherwise, you’ll risk missing out on opportunities to grow your career and your business.
