6 Reasons Why You Should Upsize

by Don M. QCContent12

It's been a few years, and things are starting to feel a wee bit cramped. You've been daydreaming of a room dedicated to your comic book collection for some time now, and the piano in the living room truly looks out of place. The kids are itching for a bigger space to move around and you've got the means, so why not make the move to a larger home?

So get ready to book the removalists because here are 6 reasons why up sizing will change your life for the better.

1. Growing family

One child can take up more space than you think. Add a few more, throw a dog and cat into the mix, and you'll quickly feel like a canned sardine in a small house. Kids come with toys, bikes, scooters, books and closets. They want space to run around, their own nooks to be alone, and allocated spaces for games and play. And don't forget about how many toilets and bathrooms you have. One bathroom amongst six people during peak hours isn't very practical, or fun. Having a big family isn't exclusive to young children too. Ageing grandparents like to live with their kids if there is a spare room, and they can be there to look after the grandkids. If your family is expanding, you will appreciate the extra space and glorious air to breathe.

2. Space to entertain

Having a larger house can very easily turn your home into a party and entertainment destination, and subsequently, make you designated host. You've got the big backyard, the wide living room, a separate room for the kids to play video games, and a big dining area for all your guests. If you love cooking, baking and 'bringing a plate', this is where it's at. Big occasions don't have to be done in some fancy city venue. Christmas parties, New Years, birthdays - they can be hosted at home. For creative junkies, the opportunities to transform your house into a themed work of art with decor and ornaments are endless. Leave your guests in awe of your decorating prowess.

3. Financial investment

Small house devotees might have an initially cheaper price to pay, and lower costs, but in the long-run, bigger houses do fetch a larger return on investment and allow you to borrow more from the bank. Having a larger house allows you to rent out several of the rooms or use it for AirBnB, if you aren't using all of them, giving you extra passive income. It will also give you a higher resale value when it comes time to moving.

4. Opportunity to use the rooms

Renting out rooms is just one of the great things you can do with the extra space in your house. If you have a serious hobby like painting, or music, you can dedicate an entire room to easels or an entire sound system. If you'd rather work out in private and not in the vicinity of sweaty patrons, you can create your own small home gym. If you have kids or love watching movies, you can design an entertainment room with board games, a big TV and other gaming setups. The sky is the limit when you have extra rooms.

5. Backyard fun

Big backyards are perfect for the summer. When you have kids, backyards scream water fights, pool parties, barbecues and Easter egg hunts. They are cosy and suburban, with plenty of opportunity to entertain, host parties and relax. Backyards also give your pets space to run around freely, and enjoy nature. On top of this, if you ever wanted to have something like a vegetable garden or build a storage shed or mini studio, you can. Backyards offer that bonus, outdoor space you might not have in a smaller pad.

6. Home business

If you run your own business or services, and prefer to work from home, having a larger house can allow you to do do just that. Turn one of your bedrooms into an office space or hairdressing salon, or teach piano and Chinese lessons in the other. This can save on renting business premises, and completely eliminate commuting time.
