5 Types of Scaffolding Systems

by Jane Tussel Content Manager

Everyone in the construction industry knows the importance and benefits of scaffolding systems. However, there are different types of scaffolds, and the need for this depends on the complexity of the construction project.

For instance, suspended scaffolding is well-suited for tall and high-rise structures. At the same time, wooden scaffoldings are an excellent option if you do not have to transport heavy materials during construction.

In Kent, construction companies rely on professional scaffold system providers for scaffolding. Here's a brief review of five common types of scaffolding and their uses.

Different types of scaffolds and their uses

To get the correct type of scaffolding for the construction project, it is necessary to have information about the common types of scaffolding.

Wooden scaffolding

Wooden scaffoldings are the most traditional option when it comes to scaffolds. Pre-cut lumber and bamboo are the two common types of wooden planks that are used as wooden scaffolding. This scaffold is used only when the construction does not involve transporting heavy materials.

Suspended scaffolding

Suspended scaffolds are suspended alongside the building construction with ropes or other non-rigid means from above. Several types of suspended scaffolding include cantilever, swing stage, multi-level, multi, and single-point adjustable.

Construction projects use suspended scaffolding for ceiling renovations, bridge repair, and other infrastructure projects.

Single scaffolding

Single scaffolding uses the building structure as a support system. Putlogs are inserted in the construction project's holes to support the scaffold. This scaffold type is used only for simple residential projects.

For complex high-rise buildings, there are better solutions than single scaffolding.

Modular scaffolding

Unlike the other variants, modular scaffolding is pre-engineered and can be easily dismantled and installed again.

Where are they used? Modular scaffolding platforms are used depending on the needs of the project. Some construction projects use ringlock, while others prefer using frame scaffolding.

Mast climbing scaffolding

These scaffolds come with platforms that allow workers to the mast. In this scaffold, a pair of vertical towers and a driving unit move the platform up and down. Masonry contractors mostly use them and save much construction time. They are the best option for carrying heavy loads during the construction process.
