5 Qualities of a Legit Wholesale Supplier

by Jeff M. Writer

There is no way you can skip the wholesale supplier when you talk about business. They purchase products directly from the manufacturer in large quantities and sell it in bulk to retailers.

The retailers, in turn, sell in little quantities to the final consumer. The role of the wholesale supplier is a really huge one in the supply chain.

The wholesale supplier does the grading and packaging before supplying to the retailer, provides credit facilities to some retailers who can't afford to pay for the goods, provides marketing information, and so on.

Since doing business without a wholesale supplier is almost impossible, here are 5 qualities to help you determine which is legit:

1. Accessibility

The whole point being a wholesale supplier is because you have in large quantities what retailers need to keep their business going, and also because you are there to make the whole business process easier on them as retailers.

When all of these aren't happening, then there's a default somewhere. If you can’t get easy access to a wholesale supplier (which is very abnormal), then there's high probability that they aren't legitimate and you should keep your money and entire business away from them.

2. Consistency

A legitimate wholesale supplier doesn't hop from one location to another because he understands the importance of consistency in business.

He understands the importance of location and the risk of losing customers due to the constant change in location. Those people never bargained for the stress in the first place and they won't be having any of it since he’s not the only wholesale supplier available.

Most times when a wholesale supplier keeps changing location then it means some aspects of their business are shady and you need to stay away. But on the brighter side, you'll know a legitimate supplier when you see one.

They are never afraid to stay in operation in a particular location because they have been consistent enough to attain that level of confidence.

3. Good customer service

Good wholesale suppliers understand that one of the most important features of every reliable company is a functioning customer service, and every legitimate wholesale supplier should have one.

Customer service is available to answer your questions about their mode of operation, products, and services, maintain customer records, take in customers' complaints and solve any issues with their services.

If there's nothing like this in the wholesale supplier's company, then they aren't legitimate. And yes, you should run.

4. Well organised

A legitimate whole sale supplier is always organised. They already have a mode of operation – that doesn't change often.

They're not confused or messy because they're organised enough to know what you want since they keep a record of their previous sales.

They help you track your goods and keep you updated since they know the value of their customers. They aren't touchy when you ask for information because they're experts at what they do.

When you see these attributes, you should know you're on the right track.

5. Licensed and registered

Going into a business transaction with a registered wholesale supplier is safer and easier than doing so with an unregistered one. You know they can't do anything fraudulent that would soil their reputation or make them lose their license. So, look your wholesale supplier up and check if their business is registered – that's how you'll know they're legitimate.

Business isn't always rosy; you have to take risks all the time. But you should only take those risks worth taking so you don’t ultimately fail in business. Be on the lookout for these legit wholesale supplier qualities, and you wouldn’t have to regret anything or run into a loss.
